Have you compared to the original vinyl though? I don't think they sound "bad" but they don't sound as good as the originals.

    Nspindel,
I have not compared Magical Mystery Tour and Sargent Peppers to the original pressings but as a standalone purchase the new releases are pretty nice.

Have the re-masters grown on any of you guys over the past year? Seems to have mixed reviews.

+1. The remasters of "Rubber Soul", "Help!" and I think one or two others use the re-masterings/remixes that George Martin did in the late '80's. IMO, they are absolutely terrible! The tone of them is horrid and The Beatles' voices and instruments sound completely off. On the positive side, the actual fidelity is better than other versions. The trade off is not worth it (again IMO).

I highly suggest the MFSL versions. None of them use the remixed/remastered versions of the albums. The only problem I have is with "Magical Mystery Tour" where MFSL did some editing in between a couple tracks (if I remember correctly, in between "Flying" and "Blue Jay Way"). There shouldn't be as much space in bewteen these two tracks as there is. It isn't as fitting to the songs (again IMO).

(On a side note): I have a bootleg of "Magical Mystery Tour" (The Capitol Versions) that has the German mix of the album. It has true stereo mixes of "Penny Lane" and "Baby You're A Rich Man" that were done in 1967. I don't know that I like it BETTER than the USA mix, but it's interesting to listen to.

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Any thoughts on the parlophone box set? Saw one yesterday, all jackets are damaged, but the vinyl looks like mint condition. The guy wants 120, but didn't know if the UK recordings sounded any better to compensate for the damaged covers.

Wasn't aware there was a Parlaphone box set. I have many of the original UK vinyls, they are the way to listen to the Beatles unless you go with the Japanese vinyl. Mono vinyl for most of the Beatles titles are the best mixes IMO.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Thanks, for about 8 bucks an album, I probably should have snagged it. It was just so sad to see all those torn up covers. I'll check back with him next week to see if it's still there.
