So you're running your music straight out of your Mini and into your Pre/DAC?

I'm beginning to wonder if I could/should do that also and just ditch the Squeezebox Touch.

Yes, I have a firewire cable from Mac to DAC. The sound is excellent. I use the Remote app FREE from Apple to control iTunes.

Hmmm...

My DAC doesn't have a FW input. Just USB, coaxial and RCA's. Do you think the USB connection would be fast enough?

Most people use USB. It will be plenty fast. The program is designed to optimize both types of inputs.

I use it as well on my Mac. It sounds great through USB and optical out into my dac.
(all unibody/aluminum macs have an oprical out in their headphone jack, you just need an adapter)

I'm now using Channel D pure music. I agree it's fantastic. I have had 3 different DAC's here and I also have run Optical directly out of my Mac. I picked up the adapter at the Apple Store.
