WOW!!!!!
My amp is not done as of yet so I am running it with my Yamaha integrated uncoupled. Smooth as silk with great definition. I am going to mess around and end up with a pretty decent stereo if I am not careful.
Thanks for everyone's help

Congrats! I miss mine
Enjoy! -
TOTL Adcom Pre-amp. And not too shabby even when compared to units far more expensive!
Enjoy!

It came out of a Pawn Shop in Oklahoma. I most likely paid to much. I got this one for about the average price I have seen them listed at lately.
It sounds light years better than the one in my Yamaha CA-1000. Some of that is not really fair as it is no longer stuck in Class A if not using the internal pre amp.
I am not an educated listener by any stretch of the imagination but I hear the difference. I am liking it big time. -

Great preamp. I still haven't been able to pry mine out of my fathers system, he loves it too much. One piece I don't think I will ever sell.

Nice pre amp I hear they are one of adcoms best. I saw one on audiogon a while back, needless to say I thought about it to long and when I went back a couple of days later it was gone.Home Theater

Heard a lot of great things about it as well. I'll be looking for one when the time comes. Hopefully one isn't listed here soon. What are you using for a pre these days Aaron? -
A 13 year old pre which is still in demand in the used market.

Right now I am using an NAD 116 as a pre in my system, and it surprisingly sounds very good, especially for the money. It doesn't quite hold up to the Adcom however, not really a contest.
I am waiting to find a different amp to use with my GFP-750, might try using an NAD 218 but would rather go with something like a B&K or maybe a parasound. -
If I had a kid I could have borrowed it from I could have saved some money. No kids and with my luck they would not have loaned it to me anyway. Ingrates.
Could not agree with you More GlennDog. I had a general idea of what I wanted and with the help of the board here am well on my way.
Anyone who thinks they might want one of these could do much worse. Not my first passive pre-amp. Kicks the crap out of the Velleman. (I expected that it would) -
This is the only hobby my father and I really share together and its really great to be able to do so. It makes it a lot easier to try new things in the systems and its time spent together which I wish I had not taken for granted when I was younger.
Our next venture is a tubed pre. Figured we could split it and trade between solid sate and tube when we feel like it... -
For me and my dad it was photography.
It is great you share a common interest. Sounds like a tube pre of some sort may be your only hope. -
Yea, my dad is a photographer but I could never get into it like he does, music and music systems work great for it.
Hopefully we can get our hands on a nice Dared pre soon to check out. -

That's awesome man. My dad and I share golf.
It's funny, we always seem on the hunt for the same gear and our systems are very similar. You finally landed the GFP750 shortly after I did, then I picked up the Channel Islands VDA-2 (amazing DAC) which you had before me, now we're both looking into the Dared pres. Who will get there first? Haha -
I was fairly new, but I should have grabbed your 750 with the B&K. The amp is amazing, though. Looking to pair it with the 750 when I can. Really regret letting that combo go. It was a great little setup. -

The question is.............who will keep theirs the longest? I know the answer!!!

Buying/selling is where the fun is for me -
haha, its a race, but I think I will be keeping it the longest...no doubt

Shane, which B&K amp was that again? I want to keep my eyes out for one, assuming it would have the power for my 1C's, which I'm sure it does

One upside to all of your gear swapping is I get to come here for good advice.
Someone here has owned one of most everything. Sometimes twice.
I do have a pre-map question. The remote volume control was sluggish and would not function at times. I opened the case and sprayed the hell out of thing with De-Oxit. I exercised the pot at least 100 times back and forth. It works great now. Am I done or do I need to do anything else? -

Spraying the hell out of something is rarely a good idea. Maybe you got lucky, time will tell. That is a very expensive ALPS motorized potentiometer. It shouldn't need to have the hell sprayed out of it with deoxit unless it was in an abusive environment.
It does take practice to modulate the volume with the remote. I've had mine since new and never had a single remote control issue. Of course I don't use it all that much. I have the Dared tube pre running through the processor loop.

Bad choice of terms. I worked the pot as I sprayed. There was spray coming back out but not blasting all over the place. Was not overly clean at first either.
What was happening here was I would set the volume then come back to change and the volume would stay. Wiggle the knob and it would work maybe. Sometimes it worked perfectly. The unit did not look dirty or dusty inside. I figured it was whatever Alps lubrication put in there had gone south. The control was smooth to turn but did feel a bit stiff. I am not the first owner of this unit so someone prior to me might have done something dumb.
As I started to clean things started to feel a bit gritty for lack of a better word then with exercise and a good flushing became much smoother.
It was just the motor. Volume control works perfectly. When I adjust the volume there is no sound other than an increase in volume.
You are correct about its being expensive. I would not like for anything bad to happen. -
I gotta try one of these someday, but they are hard to find.
