“What about Somali or Hispanic students, who might not eat sandwiches?,” she said. “Another way would be to say: ‘Americans eat peanut butter and jelly, do you have anything like that?’ Let them tell you. Maybe they eat torta. Or pita.”

I don't eat pita sandwiches, but I'm smart enough that if someone used one as a teaching example, I'd still be able to understand their point and learn the over-arching lesson. I think it's racist to assume that a Hispanic student can't learn from an example that doesn't include a burrito...

Its based on Critical Race Theory, it basically states that whites are one monolithic block of colonial racists Implicitly/Explicitly applied throughout societal structure. Its absolute BullS#$$. However it is gainingsteam into the mainstream. It is the inspiration behind your PBJ link. You will find that most of what Liberals call white priviledge, I call math.

It's the same theory that, despte the fact i find racism repugnant and offensive with every fibre of my being, says I am somehow responsible for the sins of two-hundred years ago. It also claims that descendants of those that were victims of these horrors cannot be held to account for thierry actions. As atated above, what a bunch of bs.

Our choice of words should be judged on their intent. Of course I realize this requires some gray area thinking; an extremely difficult task for the "PC" robots.

Granny still refers to black people as "negroes." Is she a little out of date? Sure. Does she mean anything bad by it? Of course not. For her generation, that was actually the accepted term. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body, it's just the place/era she was brought up in. There's a number of black guys that work the Christmas tree lot with Granny, and she see's to it that they are fed a hot breakfast and lunch, have hot coffee, etc. They adore her, and also call her Granny.

PC'ers are in need of a life.

It's not our country, it's (luckily) a small minority of idiots.

It's scary though---I saw an article the other day about a city banning cussing. I immediately assumed it was in the U.S. (shocked none the less)......now how sad is that prospect? Luckily, it was Brussels Belgium.

Now thats interesting.....have to give that a whirl.

Back on topic. If you can find racism in a sandwich, then nothing is out of reach. Thus, it divides us, not unite us in any sense of the word. White colonists, racism, divided citizenry, etc.....I won't spell it out but hey, we all know who spouts this junk. A PB&J sandwich has racial conotations my arse. Maybe a brain evalution is long over due for these people.

Tony, you are right on, but i will just add to it.

If someone does not yet know that nothing is out of reach when it comes to this kind of thing, then they are not from somewhere like atlanta georgia.

Dont know about anyone else, or anywhere else, but it has played out directly in front of my eyes, in my lifetime, in the hometown of martin luther king.

If you go back and read some of what he truly believed, and wanted for america, it was not our present day belief system, and he did not want this for his country.

I was on a TV forum that described every black actor born in Europe as "African-American." Any other term resulted in a dog-pile, and accusations of racism.

I know where they are going, it used to be the Ford plant in Hapeville, one of the two businesses that inspired Truitt Kathy and his brother to start a little restaurant in an old converted house,.

It was so small they called it the dwarf house, later, a menu item became pretty popular, it was a chicken sandwich, they called it a chick-fil-a.

Not long after they opened the first food outlet in a mall, tiny Greenbriar mall down the highway.

My cousin flipped burgers for truitt in high school when those were the only 2 locations, he has never worked anywhere else, he now helps select where the new stores go.

Hope your wife enjoys her stay in atlanta, tell her to be careful, that is not the best area anymore, but it used to be like mayberry.

My childhood home is about 2 miles from that plant.

Thanks Scotty, but not her first time, nor mine down there. We have relatives that we have visited over the years in Atlanta. Not so nice area ? Just look at the Underground after dark.....thats enough to scare any tourists away. You have to remember, this trip is to sell Atlanta to employees to get them to move down there so everywhere they go is top of the line restraunts, neighborhoods, etc. The wife said they went to the most expensive restraunt in Atlanta yesterday, The Lobster something, can't remember, but she's having a good time and eating like a king.....not that we don't on a normal basis. We're both foodies and wine nuts.

When I talked to her last night, she made a comment that we both agree on and frankly miss when going back north. The people in the south are so nice. They have manners, are pleasant to talk to and are just plain darn nice people in general. A far cry from what most are used to in big citys like Chicago or New York.

Racism rears it's ugly head in any society, you can educate all you want but it's existance will still be around long after we are gone. The only thing you can do is to try and minimalize it as best you can. It's more so a human nature thing and not one of our species better traits either. For me anyway, racism on any level isn't good but their are differences between those who silently do not care for other races and those who actually promote it. Between those who go about their day with tolerance, and those who wish to do harm to others strictly because of racial issues. Between those who fight what has been wrongfully drilled into their heads as a youth and use common sence to deal with racism.....and those who seek to point out racism for profit and further agenda's.

A pb&j.....racist ?.......one has to question the mental stability of such fools.

I'm ashamed to admit that I live in Portland, (Porkland) Oregon. Born and raised here during a time when this kind of crap wasn't even thought of. A good portion of the state has turned into a cesspool.. from Bend, OR to the coast and extending from Portland to Ashland.

This kind of thing does not surprise me in the least, in fact it's the norm. Watch the show Portlandia on IFC. It's 100% spot on.

I attended Portland Public Schools from Kindergarten though my freshman year. The PPS system is a vile, nasty and hateful system. My tenure was filled with all my teachers and administrators telling me I was a worthless POS, a stupid kid with serious mental disabilities, not at all intelligent or bright and needed to jump off a high bridge because I was going to wind up a drug addict and be a drain on society. I've run into other people who's kids were treated the same way. Some of them snapped and are now lifetime residents of the state mental hospital. The parents sued and the cases were settled out of court.

My days of being here are numbered. Most of my family has moved away and it is really only my Grandmother left. She's pushing 90 and when she passes away there's nothing left for me here. I don't even attempt to date since I got tired of being insulted and screamed at by women for having conservative viewpoints.
