Don't mean to keep bringing up the MC-7P in the SL2000a thread, but it's sort of on topic. Brock, can you think of any reason why I shouldn't be able to use one of those T-funk long plates I got in place of the single 12AT7 in the pre-amp stage of the MC-7P? Can the 5965 be used in place of the 12AT7 in general? Or is it case by case, with it working in the SL2000a but maybe not elsewhere?

I think the 5965 should be able to be used anyway a 12AT7 tube is called for. I think the 12AT7 is the broad category for the tube type and there are many sub types under that category like the 5965, ECC801s, E81CC, ECC81, 6201, etc.

I just received my last tube purchase. I now have two types of Brimar recrtifers. One is the CV1863 KB/FE model with the writing on the glass and not on the black base. The other is a BRIMAR from the fifties with a 5Z4G marking on the glass and also on the base. I know they are both BRIMARS but is one considered better than the other?
