Is it possible to cross-breed car audio subs with home audio amps in a DIY box, to any good effect?

I used a car sub to replace a home sub years ago, it worked fine. The thing you got to watch is can your amp go 4ohm or what ever the sub is.
My HT set-up Panasonic front proj, 120 in ws screen, ATI amp,Integra 9.8 pre-pro, 2 Polk rti150, cp 1000, 4 fx 1000, Pioneer blu-ray 2 SVS sub pb 12-ultra 2, & Paragon popcorn popper. ps 3 Coaster leather HT recliners.

Also watch the fr - a lot of car subs are made to sound good in a car which has tons of cabin gain, and might sound like tin cans in a house. Then again there are a few that work fine for both, if you build the box right.
