Rta15tl rebuilding

GOT A SET OF RTA15TL'S...... LOVE 'EM! BUT..........They are older and have use on them ...cabinets in great shape, and everything seems fine....and I have ALREADY blown 2 tweeters!
So the plan is this..I have a 100 watt per channel Onkyo receiver driving them now....BUT an Adcom 555 II is on the way!
I have heard replace the capacitors for a bit of improvement....... that is one of the plans I'll undertake...BUT any ideas on how to protect the tweeters a bit better? Any help is appreciated! (FUSE?) what size? They do NOT have polyswitches, as the 2 ohm resistor is already in place. Looking forward to some good feedback! Thanks in advance!

Call Polk to order RDO replacements. They wont blow near as easy and they sound worlds better.
Mention you are a Club Polk member, should be like $48 shipped each- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Crossover schematic (Look for sticky thread at top of vintage speakers forum threadlist) shows a polyswitch--have you visually confirmed that there is none on the board? There's a quite long thread here somewhere that details a crossover update (may have even changed some values of some parts?)
Going from the receiver to the Adcom amp may be enough to help prevent damage to your new tweeters, as they will be much more able to deliver copious amounts of clean, distortion-free power.
Enjoy those speakers. One of my favorite Polks to look at (never have heard 'em though)

Yeah, don't try to rock out with an AVR and you won't send a clipped signal to the tweeters thereby protecting them a bit better. Simple concept, eh?Political Correctness'.........defined

The RTA15TL in the later designs did not have a polyswitch- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Thanks for the advice so far guys! I'll be in touch with more questions, but its bedtime now, and honeys not happy! too much time at the 'puter! Is replacing the caps worth the money? Or just stick to the new tweets since I have a really clean amp on the way? (love this Polk Forum! Adios and good-night!

Replacing caps/resistors are well worth it! I have worked on two at this point and all of the owners have loved it!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

VR3......Nice work! Read a lot of your posts, visited your webpage, and seems you have a pretty good grasp on all this.....I'm impressed! Now, that said, what will the costs be of replacing the caps and resistors, versus a full blown redesigned crossover? After reading a few other posts, it seems moving the crossover point a bit higher to the tweets may help the life span of them?
Definately interested in what your recommendations are, and when we could get started on a new crossover if you are interested! -
I think it would be best for us to take this to email... Vr3Mods@gmail.com- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
