I was wondering if coiling of ICs or speaker wire is a good idea. I do it for aesthetics but really do not know if it's the right thing to do. Yes 1pair of ICs are measured and bought from Signal Cable but there are others at varying lengths so to clean it up a bit I do coil and then either ty-rap or tape. I know the general rule is the shorter the better both when buying boutique or off the shelf both for price and performance. This is a little confusing only because most all wires are either jacketed or even sheilded..

I wouldn't loose sleep over it, but if you can aviod it (especially with speaker cable) then do so. But if you like the aesthetics then I wouldn't be too worried unless you are talking about coiling 25'+, then there might start to be an issue.

You also should have signal carrying cables perpendicular to power cables and power cables should never run parallel on top of each other, etc, etc. Just try and be mindful of those ideas if you can, but don't loose any sleep over it.

Coiled up wiring will create an increased magnetic field. I have tried it both ways (coiled and uncoiled) with my IC's, Speaker Cables and also power cords. I can't hear any difference. But, this is my system. Yours may behave differently. Experiment.

We made an electric motor in elementary school with................coils of wire. Be careful that your speakers don't get tipped over, when things start to spinin' !!!!!

ME losing sleep ,no Ambien takes care of that ,but I do know you should never run high voltage or ac plug wires next to or bundled w/ your speaker or source cables.my concern was only w/ ICs and some extra speaker wire. were not talking miles here.

I ran my surrounds under some trim, so it's semi-permanant - I left about 10 feet extra just in case I ever needed to move them a little, or strip an end off for nanners.

I'd say if you don't realize there is a problem, it more than likely doesn't exist. Now if your speakers hum so loud it shakes the house - then you've got problems.
