Need speakers for movies only

So I have been running back and forth from the home in the country and I will be building an enclosed HT from scratch

I want to get a 7.1 or 2 setup thats just going to serve me for movies only. I used to have rti's so I need a change as I have them in my apartment man cave for video games. Basically I want something bright and dynamic but again no music is going to be played through them so cancel such speakers from the equation. I also think I need 2 really good subs

this will be my second post on the same topic but I cant think of anyplace where to put the full question of gear speakers and room treatment carpeting and wall coverings. Maybe this thread hear could be the best one out of the three as the speakers will be affecting the choice of amplification?

I shall get some pics up of the project once I get my room dimensions decided and start to build the walls etc. This is going to be a nightmare so I hope I dont F* it up so I will follow advice closely

Yup for Movies only I would look at the two suggested above. Get some really good subs and you can get by with cheaper bookshelves from them as well.

Klipsch RF series is my vote too. I think when funds allow i'll be replacing my home theater with all Klipsch as well, hard to beat for movies.

Throw the new KEF Qs into that mix. The towers, Q900s, are pretty impressive for the price! See some of Phil's posts on his Yamana Aventage 3010 and KEF Q system. I've also heard a similar set up and dollar for dollar it's tough to beat.

If you are wanting to stay small, the Def Tech 350s and 450s can be had for a song. GREAT for HT. Look for a L/C/R 2000 or 2002 for timbre matching.

Just going round the net looking at prices based on your suggestions and the klipsch look quite attractive for the price and upon reading it said they use 75% less power. With that in mind I could get a powerful receiver and save money to put towards other things like room treatments

What about subs? This area has never intrested me because I built my first system around apartment living but this setup changes things as there is no one to complain about noise. Is there a particular favorite that gives you a happy medium with lfe vs price?

Edit: I have only just started looking at the q900 from kef so they may move up a spot after more reading about their center channel offerings and such

I do love my rti's for video games and always will but I just wana try something diff. The newer rti's are to me the best looking speakers out there in my price range. If the KEF looked better then I would be willing to maybe go up in budget to try them

I currently have the little brother and it is beautiful piece of work, I am tempted to try out the VTF-15 but after getting a amp and most likley getting my front three modded my wife may be getting "wife audio upgrade fatigue" or wauf for short so that upgrade may wait until next year. However if you get it please do tell, it looks like it gets great reviews.

Plus it does very well in this shootout vs other big dawgs..

I have the original VTF3, and couldn't fathom two. I keep the volume about 35% and still have to turn the bass down on certain shows/movies.

I just got some Rf82's last week, they were very bright with my old Pioneer receiver but as soon as I hooked up the NadT752 it was perfect. I really enjoy them for music as well, but everyones tastes are different. Compared to my Rti's they're more lively and dynamic, but I still think my Rti12's have a little better midrange.

All that said my next HT setup will definitely be RF7ii's, RC64, & RS62's, but not for another year or so. I haven't got to hear the Def Tech Mythos series yet but they are also very high up on my list as well, but since music isn't in the equation at all i'd stick with horns.

My vote goes to the Paradigm Studios.

First *bright*/dynamic speaker that I don't find fatiguing, and they're great (though not the best) for music too.

In this order if you don't want Polk,

    For HT only
    Klipsch
    Def Tech

But I would get the KEF's as they would give you the best of both worlds. In case your needs change.

I'm going to politely disagree with all the suggestions made, with the exception of maybe the klipsch. Most all of these speakers are compromises. Meant for dual duty essentially. The OP said movies only, and I don't see any theater dedicated suggestions besides klipsch. And even those are designed for dual use. Maybe the def tech sts, other than those, I don't think they're near dynamic enough.

PFB, you should look into companies like episode, jtr, gedlee, etc.
You want high power handling, high efficiency, and horn loaded. Although there are exceptions of course, like the episode 900 series which are crazy good for the price.

If you have the scratch and the space, go with jtr or gedlee, and 3or 4 subs
design is where science and art break even.

Well I was thinking HT only speakers to maybe save money but it may be more costly as I priced out a klipsch system. The main problem is the rc 64 11 center channel they offer can only be timbre matched with the rf 7 11 because of the tweeter sizes are the same. I can get a rc 64 center for $900 but the towers to match retail at $3300 but can be found for $24000 so thats my starter cost at $3300 for just the 3 fronts.

I really want a monster center channel to build the system around so any other suggestions are warmly welcomed in the monster center channel department

I was just checking that out and it looks the part for sure as does the cheaper axiom vp 180 center http://www.axiomaudio.com/vp180.html

I cant put a third tower behind the screen as it wont be acoustically transparent. The ceiling aint that high and I am thinking of putting tiles so thats going to lower the roof on the build even more
