After a very long day of helping my daughter move into her new house I was pulled over late last night on my way home. I really had thought maybe a tail light was out or something like that when he stated I was going 40mph in a 25 zone. I said I didn't think I was going that fast and had hoped since my record is clean he would just give me a warning but no, $111 fine but no points.

Ticket shows radar was used to clock my speed. I had heard that those guns were not accurate below a certain speed. Wife wants me to fight it but if I lose then there's more costs. Should I just take my lumps and pay it?
Yep, my name really is Bob.

Pay the ticket and pay attention to what you are doing. You thought you were not speeding but, to be truthful, very few people can sense the difference between 25mph and 40mph.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Pay the fine and move along Bob.It sucks but if there are no points i'd say you are getting off easy.
Your clean record saved your but on the points i'd bet.Traffic tickets are a money machine that they need to work.Cops were everywhere in Central PA yesterday so maybe it was a statewide crackdown.
    Could have been worse IMHO.

Yeah pay it. You could try to "go" to court (without a lawyer) and talk to the prosecutor before the trial. Then ask if you can take a defensive driving class to reduce the penalty. May or may not work.

Laws must be different in each state, as here I believe a ticket for any moving violation automatically effects points on your insurance. If it's just a fine, I would pay and be thankful the insurance does not increase for the next 6 years.

Its a money maker. Many states are now setup so that less than 15mph over is no points, not reported to insurance. Georgia is the same way. Radar is extremely accurate and there is not much you do to argue it. Just pay and move on.

yeah and then that traffic school takes 6 hours and is boring as hell. When I was a young and poor grad student I would do anything to get out of paying the fine. Now its just not worth the time. Consider it as donation to public safety. If only it was tax deductible!

Considering its no points, I would take my lumps and move on. The only thing I have taken to court is a speeding ticket that I received that had 3 points and a large fine. The judge, considering my otherwise clean record and my admission of guilt, reduced it to 1 point and kept the full fine. I was fine with that.

All of these things differ state to state. Find a local ticket lawyer. Usually, the consult is free and here in Texas, is almost always CHEAPER than the ticket.

Every state differs. Tejas, you can pay the fine and pay to take defensive driving.
Or just plead guilty and eat the fine and points. Or do neither and get a friendly visit.

I've had 2 speeding tickets in 25 years of driving. I just think about all the time I've saved over the years by not going the speed limit & the cost doesn't seem so bad, LOL. I don't know you financial situation, but $111 wouldn't be worth fighting to me.

I got a ticket recently while driving on a business trip.

Bummer, but I figure I richly deserved it for all the times I drove faster than the speed limit but did not get a ticket.

I did drive straight to a Walmart and buy an inexpensive radar detector to help prevent me from getting another ticket.

It seems like radar speed traps are everywhere now. It's just a matter of communities wanting to generate revenue.

I went to court just to get a break on the points, and judging by the number of people in the courtroom
like me with speeding tickets in that small community, one cop, in one car, with one radar gun, can generate a lot of revenue.

If you were in Ontario, I'd say fight it all the way. We get screwed up here - pretty much any ticket (well, 2nd ticket in three years) will make your insurance skyrocket. People fight every ticket nowadays here just because of the insurance hike (for at least 3 years!), not because of the ticket itself.

I know some states offer a 'reduced violation' I recently got a 15 over in a 45 (had just dropped from 60), and had a dealer 'calibrate' my speedo, they reduced it to an equipment violation, the crappy side? The improper equip ticket was more than my speeding ticket, didn't go on my record or points though. I don't know if your state offers anything like that, try calling your local DA.

Pa. is notorious for speeding tickets. I really doubt you have a chance of getting out of this. I'd just pay, and have when I was living down there. Especially if it was a Pa. State Police stop!

Well if you live in a county like the one I do. You pay cash.....and the ticket somehow never shows up on your record at all. And if ya got ****.....well there just might be no fine at all. Needless to say our judge has been in office for the better part of his adult life.

I got a speeding ticket once years back. Cop said I was doing 40 in a 25 zone, I just turned at a 4 way and was heading up hill ! Funny thing was I was only one at intersection and out of nowhere came flashing lights.
I payed the pre-trail to rid it from record $ 130.00. I found out later that the cop was sitting at her parents house
with lights off at top of hill in their drive way. NOT COOL!!!!

    No points, just pay it.

Points ? Then find a local Traffic Law Center or whatever local strip mall traffic "law center" franchise joint you have locally, pay max of $200, and go home and have a beverage.

They'll get almost anything changed into an "Excessive Vehicular Noise" (non-moving) violation.

The Traffic Court judges are lawyers, but they don't care what your story is. They are there as part of the money generating revenue stream. Don't interrupt the stream.
