I can get a Paradigm PW-2200 for about $1100 with taxes. (Canadian dollars) What do you guys think? Go for it?

That is a decent deal for the PW2200 but it is a lot of money. Have you considered DIY? You could build a sub that would outperform it for half the money. If it interests you, check out Ron-P's Driftwood theater and his Tempest in the system showcase.

I don't really feel like a DIY, but it could be an option. You never know.

Glemay, I think you can probably find a better deal. Have you heard the pw2100 or 2200 yet?

    Doc,

What do you think about the new PW-2100 and the PS-1200 or the PS-1000?

Do you think the PS-1200 you be any where close to the PW-2200? Would the PW-2100 be better than the PS-1200?

Paradigm makes good subs, and I'm sure the lesser models will perform OK.

The 2200 has always been a strong performer and has proven itself under Tom Nousaines rigorous testing regiment and it was recently improved with more power, so it's my recommendation out of all you listed.

Certainly give a listen to the other models though - can't hurt to compare and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised by the new lower models.

I just sold my Sound Dynamics THS-3000 for $250 CDN. Did I do O.K.?http://www.helloav.com/speakers/sound_dynamics/ths3000.html

It retailed for $600 when it first came out. Don't know if it is $600 CDN or US.

    Thanks

I think I might have screwed up by selling my Sound Dynamics THS-3000. I just found out that when it came out in 1997 it sold for $600 USD. And I sold it for $250 CDN. :(

I still might have done O.K. since it was 7 years old... right? Here is a link to the sub's specs.

    I need to be comforted.:(

Did I do O.K. in the long run?

I would say that you did fine. That MRSP is likely inflated and I have personally never heard of the company. You wont regret it when you hear the Paradigm subs, and have that extra $250 CDN.

The 2200 will wipe up the floor with that previous sub. You've got nothing to worry about. Get the 2200.

I'm a little confused about placement. In the Polk manuel, it says to place the sub in the corner with the driver facing the wall. I called up my local dealer and he told me that I would place the PW-2200 so that the driver was facing towards me. Is this correct?

Note: I do note own the PW-2200... yet;)

Yeah, the driver facing out. Also, I wouldn't put the giant port too close to a wall either. At least a foot away. It is a powerful sub and that port moves a lot of air. If placed too close to the wall it will cause the drywall to shake. I know because it was like this at the dealer I went to.

Why would Polk tell me to face it towards the wall then?

If you are referring to figure 1 in the manual, it is not saying face it towards the wall. It is trying to say 'if' you face it towards the wall, give it at least 6" of clearance.

Room dimensions are 16X20. I have an older sony receiver, v444es. The rest of the speakers are Polks. RT2000P mains. cs400i center, rt35 surrounds and cs245 for the rear center. Also have an older dcm subwoofer, (150 watts w/2-12 inch woofers) That does the bass duties for the rear. I used to have the Paradigms stacked in one corner, but ended up putting them on each side of the mains. Been too busy lately to check the difference in spl with the two set-ups. But it does look nicer with this set-up. If you have anymore questions abot the 2200's, just let me know.
