I wasnt going to go with a 7.1 set up, but i always wanted to and not to mention just because you have a 7.1 doesnt mean you are using rear surrounds. Audessey has front heights, front wides AND the back surrounds as well as the side surrounds. You simply choose which speakers you can connect based on your space and audessey transforms it. In my case, i want to try front heights to see what the hype is all about..

i have actually heard from a few people that front heights and front wides are MUCH BETTER than adding surround back channels because audessey eq does an amazing job a decoding signal for them.

Speaker placement is something you have to try for yourself. All we can give you are guidelines. What sounds better to YOU can only be decided by you.

As for audessy "decoding" the signal for high front speakers, I am doubtful. 7.1 has info for front, center, side, rear speakers, and LFE. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Just in case someone thinks putting speakers next to each other is a good idea, it's not......

Yeah, but didn't he have them rigged as sda's using some one of a kind crossover network?

Yes, an active electronic SDA crossover of his own design.

Agreed. My idea isnt to place them next to each other. I wanted to place 4 lsi9s in front. I am not sure why some people think that 7.1 means you must have surround back channel. Audessey gives you the flexibility to choose HOW you want to make your 7.1 set up hapen.

audessey does not have info for the front heights and front wides. What it does is grab the mixed signal and choose what sounds are sent to wide and front heights.

    Because it's surround sound...HELLO!

To a point, but without rear speakers there's information in the soundtrack you're not going to get or at least get in the right place.

i understand that, but i have been doing huge research on 7.1 surround and even audessey recommends front wide speakers before front heights OR back srrounds because they can extract much more information for the front wides than surround back channels actually have.

Discarding rear and side channel information, which was put in by the folks who mixed the soundtrack, in favor of audessey's high front remixed channels is better? Question the data.

i totally agree with you, but how many people really have space for back surround speakers? i think the average home has more space up front than behind...

Lots do....but regardless, do whatever floats your boat. Personally, I'd do sides and surrounds before front heights, that way the sound field encompasses you better. Certainly won't hurt anything doing it your way though. Give it a whirl.

i am with you.... it is just tough as hell to try to mount speakers on the wall at 3 different positions and then decide what sounds best. not to mention i need mounts for the lsi series..
