So i picked up 2 sets of lsi9's, 1 set of lsi7s, 1 lsic, 1 pair of fxia6.
however, take a look at my set up and tell me how do i mount the lsi9's to make them front heights? and should i use my lsi7s (as posted on the picture) or the fxia6 speakers as surrounds based on how my couch is? i would like to know your opinion...
thank you !

Check out Dolby's website for speaker placement, it is very helpful. Try the links below and see if it helps any, the best results will come from tinkering with it to get it to where it sounds best to you.

sounds great. How would you mount the lsi9s as front heights? any recommendations?
-
Not familiar with the mounting abilities of that speaker, but there are lots of mounts out there that will fit the bill. Look into the Pinpoints, I have heard good things about them and there are quite a few types so you should be able to find one that would work. Maybe someone who has already done this might have an exact model/brand for you. As for height and distance requirements, I am not very sure as I still run 5.1 myself, had 7.1 for awhile, bur didn't benifit from it enough to keep it around.

would you use my lsi7s as surrounds or the bipoles? (see the pictures i attached)
-
Try them both out and see which you prefer.... The fxia6's are "actually" surrounds and may perform better, but that is just my two pennies.

Here is how I would set it up
Fronts: LSi 9's
Side surrounds: LSi f/x
Rear Surrounds: LSi 9's - use Pinpoint AM40 mounts they should work fine.
Heights: LSi 7 - use the keyhole mount for these
If you dont want the LSi 9's sticking out into the room then just switch them with the LSi 7's so you then have

ok, but let me ask you, i have the fxia6 surrounds and the lsi7's which i figure can be used as surrounds. however, based on the pictures that i posted, what would you recommend i use as surrounds out of the two speakers? my couch is up agains the wall...

ear level? i heard the speakers need to be around a foot higher than ear level.. -
i have read all over that the surround speakers need to be around a foot or 2 max above ear level..

It's all personal preference man, what sounds good to one may not to another. Speaker guides are just that, guides. They give you a place to start at and then fine tune to your own liking.

Not sure I would even use 7.1 in that room. Might be overkill. FxiA6's on the back wall as surrounds may be all you need. A crowded 7.1 setup can be a bad choice......Give it a try and compare. Thats the fun of it.Parasound HCA-2003A & 2205A

Side surrounds: Polk Rti A1's

The rest is TBD. -
based on my pictures, would you say my rears are to far up?

You want them at ear level if you're using them for music, above (1 to 2 feet) for movies. Your choice depending on what you listen to most.Anaheim Hills CA,

understood, but isnt that what audessey is for? to do its calculations and figure out whats best with the space given? -

Ok just saw that, if you can go with the LSi 7's but instead of pointing them toward the front of teh room, turn them 90 so they face inward. Use the AM40 mount on the side you dont have a wall on and just mount the other speaker on the corresponding side."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." would you mount the lsi9's on the same mount? also, do these mounts damage the speakers finish on the sides?
-

You can use the Pinpoint AM40 mounts for any of the LSi bookshelves. If your talking about using the mounts for your heights I would say yes. My preference for fronts (as in your left & right) is to get nice stands myself but you could buy mounts for those if you wanted.
They do not damage the speaker on the side because they add foam strips to the side of the mount where it presses against the speaker. For the bottom they recommend attaching with screws which I did not do, and most just use blu-tak or velcro as it wont damage the finish normally."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." how hard are they to install on a dry wall?? -
As far as level, since the LSi series has a fairly laid back top end I'd take them on at ear level. Maybe an rti series a bit higher to tame the brightness, but you won't have that issue with the 9's.
-
i agree with you, but for some reason i feel as if the lsi7s are brighter than the lsi9s?
-

LOL, 4 screws into a stud if possible. If not use heavy duty wall anchors and I think you should be fine."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
i am going to go this route for sure. I was just concerned witht he speakers being damaged by the metal pressed against it..
-
does anyone have 4 lsi9s as fronts?????
-
anybody??

Don't think there are too many people running 7.1 with heights instead of rear surrounds, or 9.1. Most places don't allow the spacing for it and cramping a bunch of speakers in a small room is not better than properly setting up a 5.1 or 7.1 minus the heights. I ran a 7.1 for awhile and my current 5.1 setup sounds much better than the 7.1 did since it was cramped up.

i totally get what you are saying, but isnt that what audessey is designed for? to adjust based on the measurements of the room?
