Regular Telefunkens (not the 5965) are dead neutral and won't typically give you that "euphoria" tubes tend to evoke. They are very balanced and clean, but they do have an impressive 3D soundstage. Since you have the Krell, I'd try the TFK ECC81's a little later on because the presentation is similar. I like the TFK ECC81 in certain applications. For me the TFK 5965 is where it's at. Revisit my holy grail thread for some additional reading.
H9"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul! -

Mmm yeah, all my Telefunken comments above were wrt the 5965. Shoulda made it clear that I was bouncing off H9's list. The ECC81's were good, but I shifted them down the line to my sons' system. 5965's "3D"? Oh yeah. There's no telling how many times I've turned around to see who was talking or clinking glasses behind me in the virtual Village Vanguard.b]Beach Audio[/b]: Rega RP6 (mods) - AT33PTG/II - Parks Budgie SUT - PSAudio NPC * Eversolo DMP-A6 * Topping D90iii * Joule-Electra LA-100 mkIII * Pass Aleph 30 * MIT S3 * Polk SRS 2.3tl (mods) * PSAudio PPP3

At least someone is marking your forsale threads sold.. I thought it was broken or nobody cared about marking threads sold..
Congrats!!
Be nice if we had the option to mark them ourselves. -
Hello,
I try and check most of the "for sale" ads, especially if I notice the original poster is the last person to have posted. But, if I miss one, send me a PM and I'll take care of it.
Cheers, Ken -
So I got the Dared today. Thanks to dhart86 for keeping all the original packaging in great condition and getting it shipped out quickly. Shame trader feedback doesn't work. The preamp is in beautiful shape, and I'm looking forward to having a play with it. Just realized that I don't have any decent interconnects, I forgot that I use XLR's with the Eddie Current, so I need to get my hands on a couple pairs of cables. Think I'll grab some Signals.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

And some tubes!
So Brock, can you recommend one combination of tubes that I should go find to evaluate this thing with?Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -
There"s a lot of good information in this thread

Well, as is commonly the case in this hobby, I will be selling this now. It's great, absolutely zero dissatisfaction with it. But shortly after I bought this, I made an impulse buy on a turntable and jumped on the vinyl train. I was going to add a separate phono stage, but after a bit of advanced calculus, I came to the conclusion that it would be more cost effective to just get a preamp that includes a phono stage. I was impressed enough with this little Dared that I decided to go with their big boy, the MC-7P. So I'll be putting up a for sale thread shortly. This is definitely a great little preamp, though, no doubt about it.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.
