Same pair ~$650 price difference. Add about $350-400 to the price for sales tax.
Needless to say there were a few stock 1.2's and TL's in the midwest that didn't move for months at $2000 and less. 2 went down to $1500, but then decided to keep them.nooshinjohn wrote: »Glad I got mine for 500.00, I have all the mods done and still in them for less than 1500.

I'm pretty sure that the serial number on a 1.2TL would read "SRS 1.2 TL L (left) or R (right) **** (production number digits)" like in the image below. The one shown just says "SDA 1.2 L 6695". The "L" designating "left speaker".

Polk used up all parts they had leftover. The tweeters are SL 3000’s and that would make them TL unless they were all changed out.2 Channel

Isn't it more likely that the tweeters got replaced than the serial number being wrong?

Every photo of an SDA SRS 1.2 (pin/blade IC socket) that I've seen has a 1st generation SDA SRS (blade/blade IC socket) sticker on it. The problem with that is 1st generation SRS's have the positive binding post nuts on the right, whereas the 1.2's have the positive binding post nuts on the left.
That's why owners of confirmed SDA SRS 1.2's (pin/blade IC socket) should make sure that the positive binding post nuts are on the left and not the right, irregardless of what the sticker says. Otherwise they're unwittingly listening to the 1.2's out of phase

I just read a bit more on Gimpod's site about identifying different models. The tweeters and the crossovers are different between the last model of 1.2 and the 1.2TL. Oddly enough, the drivers are all the same.
I thought "TL" stood for "tri-laminate" which was the certain combination of polymers on the cone, or something to that effect. Maybe the last non-TL 1.2 had the tri-laminate drivers but didn't have the same array as the TL, which might explain the different crossovers.
Also, there is a "transitional driver plate" that has 13 bolts instead of 9, but I can't figure-out how that sits in the 1.2 timeline otherwise.
Well, that was confusing, so here's a donkey riding a motorcycle.

This could explain the different stickers.

LOL ^^^ The 1.2's utilized the SL2000 tweeters so in order to "upgrade" to the 1.2TL's you have to swap out the SL2000's to SL3000's. But in order to switch to SL3000's you have to change the negative wire connector at the tweeter to a larger one to accommodate the large tab on the tweeter, then you have to use a pin removal tool to reverse the wires on all the tweeters at the crossover (Molex connector) so that they are now out of phase on purpose ....SDA SRS 2.3TL's

Yeah, that does suggest a native TL designation in most cases. I'm just glad that my speakers and serial numbers and crossovers and wiring harness and tweeters and drivers and shipping boxes all match. HAHAHAHAHA -
I'm glad all three of my TL's have everything matching also. No boxes though.

Yes it is a tri-laminate tweeter. That is why some are gold, silver or a dark color. I'm guessing it was which vapor deposited coating when on last.

It was explained to me the reason for the different colors was they could not control the outcome of the process. Since there are only two metals deposited, the polymer being the 3rd layer, I'm pretty sure the 3 different colors were not the result of which coating was applied last.Political Correctness'.........defined

It's the tweeters, not the mid-drivers.
The brochure reads: "Each SRS model features an array of Polk's exclusive Trilaminate Polymer 6 1/2" midbass drivers that exemplify today's state-of-the-art loudspeaker technology."
A few pages later it says: "The Polk SL 3000 Trilaminate Dome Tweeter sets new standards for bandwidth, flatness or response, phase linearity and power handling."

I goofed. I went from the original 1.2's ebay listing to an ebay link of the audiogon 1.2TL's for ~$4500 and mixed them up.

That would explain why the drivers for the last non-TL 1.2's and the TL's are exactly the same. -
