Mixing (and Driving) 4 and 8 Ohm Speakers
I have received wonderful advice on this forum in the past and am hoping someone can help me with a recent setup issue. I have Lsi-25s up front, Lsi-Fxs in the rear and a Pioneer Elite SC-61 receiver. I have yet to hook it up as I am in the process of moving and all the components are new.
I have two questions:
1. What center channel do I get? I tried unsuccessfully to find an Lsic and am now looking at the new Lsi M704c center channel. The Lsic is 4-ohm (as are the rest of my speakers) while the 704c is 8-ohm. Does it matter? I understand timbre matching is important but the m704c may be my only option and I want to make sure I can mix 4 and 8 ohm speakers.
2. Can my Pioneer Elite SC-61 drive this setup? The receiver puts out 200 watts/channel @ 4 ohms (7.1 channel Class D3 amplifier) which, according to posts I have seen here should be sufficient. It also helps, I think, the Lsi-25s have separately powered subwoofers. I'm not gonna rock the house but I do want sufficient sound (and quality).
Thank you. I look forward to a reply.

Fireworks I would suggest posting a "Wanted" ad in that section for an LSiC. There might be one floating around someone might consider selling. I would also constantly check Polks ebay site for one as it there might be one that pops up. In addition you might try giving them a call to see if they have one on site that hasnt been posted just yet..."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Yes, 'wanted' is a good idea.
Your receiver will be fine driving those speaker. Mixing impedances doesn't matter as long as your receiver is rated for the lowest of them. That 4 ohm or 8 ohm is just a category name, all speakers have different impedances anyway and even the same speaker has different impedance at every frequency and the range is pretty wide.
Still, when driving 4-ohm speakers with AVR I wouldn't push too high even if rated for 4 ohm..I have found that tube based computers provide the best sound quality. ENIAC and MANIAC I offer a smooth, well defined and articulated sound unmatched by the current silicon based CPUs.jeremymarcinko wrote: »But as in all things your perception is your reality. -
Thanks for the replies. I ordered the lsic from two websites only to have each order cancel because they were out of stock. I did respond to an ad today on Craigslist and hope it doesn't fall through. If it does, I'll post a Wanted. Sounds like both of you agree I should opt for the lsic over the lsim.
