I have a extra monitor 5 and a 10. My system has a 5 as a center with a SL 2500 my 10b mains are using the SL 2000. Question is change the 2000's to 194's or build a new center with the extra parts I have? I was thinking of using the passive from the 5, 2- 2000, and the 2 mid drivers from the 10, along with what ever cross-over would be best. The new center would be about 2/3rds the volume of a 10 and easily twice of the 5. Any thoughts?

Can you use a full 10 as a center? It's gonna be really tricky to build a new speaker using different combos than what was original spec. Cabinet volume, crossover values etc would have to be invented.

Try using a full 10, or try using (2) 5's. The (2) 5's in an over-under configuration would be pretty sweet.

I could, the problem is the other 5 also has the 2500. I guess my real problem is the SL 2500's don't match up well with the SL 2000's in the 10's. So I guess my real question is, are the the replacement 194 twetters close to the 2500 in tone, timber, what ever you want to call it. They are sort of close now but there is a difference.

To answer your question the SL2500 is a lot closer in timbre to the RD0-194 than the SL2000 is.

Is the 198 and 194 the same in timber?

What about using the 10 as a center? Does your extra 10 have the sl-2000's like your fronts?

Yea but it is 2 inches to talk to go in the system and the top to go on I would have to cut the speaker down. What I guess I should do is find a 5 with a 2000 tweet

I'm building my own custom center with two MW6500s, and RDO-194, and a re-capped Monitor 5 crossover. The cabinet is nearly completed, and should be ready for a test drive sometime tomorrow.

Ok pulled the trigger got the 198 and 194s. All I can say is WOW. After 15 hours of white noise, with a slow build up in volume, I can say I have what I can only describe as a wall of sound. They are a prefect timber match for each other. The 5 is giving the 10’s a run for their money, my system is now VERY balanced. I am very pleased. My wife even noticed a difference. Just a note red is +.
