Hi All,
(Repost From Test forum)
Just Picked Up Some New Vintage Equipment and Wanted Some Opinions
As Best Setup And Used Speaker Selection.
Thinking About Martin Logans To Go With My Nakamichi
....Mid 90's Amps And Receivers.
I ended Up Buying 2 Systems...one Has PA5-AII Amp
And The Other Has PA7-AII Amp.
Receiver is Nakamichi Receiver 1 ,Nakamichi 6 Disk Cd Changer,
I Dont Think My Ohms (Older Cylinder) And Infinity SM155 With ADS Sub 10 Are Doing
This Equipment Justice. Sound is Ok but I Think I Can Do Much Better.
System Is going In Living room 14'x 24' The short Way.
Any Thoughts.

    Welcome to Club Polk!

Those Nak. amps are some pretty nice stuff. If I'm not mistaken, didn't Nelson Pass have a hand in that design? (I'm sure H9 will be around to correct any errors I may promulgate here).

The larger amp will run most speakers. If you like MLs you should just buy some. But there are a lot of speakers out there.

A classic Polk pairing (vintage Polks) would also go well with this. Perhaps some larger SDAs, maybe some 1Cs!

Take a look at this site for info on these, or do a search on this forum:

Cool pickup on the Naks. Hopefully you got a good deal.

I have a PA7 (original version). As stated earlier, it should power most speakers with ease. As I understand it, Nelson Pass designed the circuit and licensed the Stasis technology. Nakamichi took the circuit designed and assembled it as they desired. You can find a few threads on then over at Audio Karma and diyaudio.com. I think Nelson Pass himself posts from time to time at diyaudio.com.

I use my PA7 with a pair of Dynaudio Contour S.3.4. It works well for me :) Find some speakers you like and the Nak will work well.

wow those polks look great...gotta do some research.
yes nelson pass worked for company Nak bought out.
i read some quote that they paid him handsomely for his stasis design.
i have been using the PA5-AII all week and its great.
switched over to the PA7-AII tonight and its a keeper...actually both are but im going to sell the PA5
    as i dont need both.
my brother has the adcom 555 and i cant wait to audition both.
i dont think i can match his altec lansings though.

The Nakamichi Pa-5 and 7 licensed stasis 1 topology from Nelson Pass. the problem with it, is that the amp could be unstable at times and oscillate with exotic speaker cables attached. Otherwise: It had amazing detail and stunning bass grip. PLENTY of current.

Could you expand on this a bit? I picked up a PA-7 about 6 months ago. What should I be looking out for? I had it serviced too and the tech mentioned noting to look out for. Don't want to damage my speakers.

I would stick with basic speaker cable setups: I'd avoid things like analysis plus or other "exotic" cables. You won't necessarily damage speakers, you will hear unusual rippling and noise if the amp oscillates. I know of someone that used one for many years with no issues.
