Picked up CRS's

I picked up a pair of original CRS's. they have the dual SL1000 tweeters and blade/blade IC. They're hooked up and sound very nice (for an unmodded pair of SDA's). XO's are the obvious next step for me but what are my upgrade options? Can I get to better RDO tweeters with some minor tweaks?

    Nice score, I had a pair and loved them. If you search around you can unplung one of the tweets, can't remember which, and get a bit better sound out of them IIRC. You can go to the 2000's with no mods, I believe, and if you want to go to the RDO series you'll have to do the XO's. Did you get the stands? Good luck!

    Thanks, that is what I'm considering doing. Right now I'm listening to them stock with my SVS sub providing a little backup. I'm really impressed already with what they are capable of and know that some sonicaps and RDO tweeters will take them to an entirely new level. I didn't get the stands. Picked them up for $100. cabinets are a bit scratched with some dings but the grills are in good shape.

    What I'm wondering is if there is a XO mod that essentially TL's them without too much hassle or if I'm best to just stick with the RDO 194?

    You did good on the price. I'm not too familiar with TLing the dual tweet version, someone with more SDA experience will have to chime in. Have you ran them without the sub? They do have good low end for a "bookie"!

    Yep, I've listened to them both ways. They do have good bottom end without the sub. I'm sure with some positioning they would sound even better. It's nice to have the 2.3TL's set up in the same room to do some A/B comparisons. I'm thinking of using these for center channel duty vs. the monitor 5's I'm currently using but that remains to be seen. These are a bit bigger and may not fit where I had in mind. If nothing else, I'll keep them and one of my kids can have them for a great first stereo when they get older.

    As far as stands go I came across some black metal 10 gallon aquairium stands at Petco they are around 36 inches tall. and will be getting a couple and cut some plywood for the top stain them black and fasten them with screws underneath, dont laugh guys, I think they will make cool stands for the CRS speakers.

    The cut outs and hole locations are slightly different.
    What I'm wondering is if there is a XO mod that essentially TL's them

    The RDO-194s are slightly larger, and will not fit the recessed cutout for the tweeter. You will either need a router to enlarge the recess, or do what I did on my M5s, and use thick gasket material, cut exactly the size of the recess. Then surface mount the RDO.
    It will be about 3/16ths out from flush.
