i have the fxi30s on the back wall of my room, the couch is going to be right up against that wall. would it be a good idea to angle them downward or is this unheard of? did anyone try this and find it was to their liking? i dont really feel like taking my speakers off the wall and messing around with it right now so i figured id ask for some opinions first. would that destroy the effect created by the fx speakers?

Duffman has actually done that, if I am recalling his pictures accurately. Omnimount 20 was the mount, they are available from Crutchfield.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I alway thought the idea of the Fxi30's or any dipole/bipole speaker was to create a diffuse sound that was very difficult to localize. So pointing the speaker down at the listening position may defeat that purpose. I have mine on speaker stands at ear level to the left and right of my sofa. This is mainly because I didn't want to mount the on the wall and I tried them at about 2ft above the listening position and thought the sound was too diffuse. Try it and if you like it, then I say go for it!Receiver = Denon AVR-3803

Polk and others reccomend pointing speakers staright forward, their is no need to angle or point rears at least.. it needs to fill the room, not you.. specifically.....MY HT RIG:

I concur that angling fx's is pointless. The only reason that I'd see for using something like Omnimounts, is if you dont' have enough space on the wall section to mount the speaker to. I don't think that there would be a sound difference per se because you're not altering the direction of the sound (substantially), just the way that the speaker is hanging.....comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

I've heard its a good idea to point them down a tad.. But yeah you want them firing over the head so it dont distract from the fronts and center.. Though the reason to point them down a tad is to make sure you dont get any reflective sound from them bouncing off the front wall and back at you. So try and point them down as far as you can without pointing them at your ears.Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio
