Today is the hottest day in "recorded" history. They started keeping records 141 years ago and it has never been this hot at 106. Same thing for my daughter in CO. Not quite as hot...but they have the fires all around them. Maybe there is something to this "global warming" thing after all....

What are you talking about? There is no global warming:wink:

Wait till the weather patterns make use of all this warmer air. We're going to have to up the hurricane scale to 10 pretty soon.

I think the U.S., Russia and China should get together and stretch a solar shade in space between the Earth and the Sun. The thermometer in my pickup showed 114 F out on the highway this afternoon.

We (the US) made our mistakes with gas guzzling, inefficient carbon based what-evers. Now (since we know better) we should be teaching the "emerging markets" that we all can protect the planet from global warming. . . . a very hard thing to implement.

So what would you call it when the average temperature "globally" has increased over a period of years? "note"...not saying what has caused it...just that it is happening.

    temperature-figure2.gif
This figure shows how average temperatures worldwide have changed since 1901. Surface data come from a combined set of land-based weather stations and sea surface temperature measurements, while satellite measurements cover the lower troposphere, which is the lowest level of the Earth's atmosphere. "UAH" and "RSS" represent two different methods of analyzing the original satellite measurements. This graph uses the 1901 to 2000 average as a baseline for depicting change. Choosing a different baseline period would not change the shape of the trend.

Let's go to Antartica, and cool down.

Antarctica's Ice Shelves Melting Quicker Than Scientists Previously Thought

"Global sea levels could rise at a significantly higher rate than had been previously predicted, a new study, published this week in the journal Nature, revealed.

The findings, which came from research led by glaciologist Hamish Pritchard of the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), show that the western side of Antarctica is shedding 23 feet of ice sheet each year, from a mixture of causes, most of which are man-made."

Do you think it might be hot because it's SUMMER?
It is generally hotter in summer than in other times of the year if my memory serves me well.
I really do not think my Camry is to blame for global warming, if in fact we do have global warming.
I'm sure all the rock and roll guys driving around in busses and using massive amounts of electricity contribute to climate much more than me. Al Gore also fits into this category since he consumes more power at home in a month than I do all year, but he is excused because he can afford to buy "carbon credits".

I guess that increased solar activity has absolutley zero to do with temperatures and weather paterns here on earth. Only a creature as arrogant as man could assume that he has the power to alter the climate of something as vast as a planet. Pretty soon we will possess the power of the Death Star or Red Matter, or even the Genesis Device. Manmade global warming is as much scienc fiction as anything that has come from Hollywood.

Now am I saying polute till hell freezes over? NO, but I am saying lets be a bit more pragmatic about claims of the sky falling without first admitting to ourselves that all of the knowlege of humankind since the monkeys started walking upright until today is less that a trillionth of what we need to have in order to understand our own bodies, much less our planet and the universe. The truth be told, humanity to this day is dumber than a box of rocks.

There's a difference between climate change and man-made global warming. Climate patterns always change and thats something we will have to deal with and adjust to. There have been times when both polar caps were completely ice less......before man even set foot on the planet. Even just a 1% shift of the earths axis can change weather patterns considerably.

We have some very smart people on this forum. To take a small fraction, 140 years out of a timeline thats 4.5 billion and claim the worlds going into the crapper because of man seems a little rediculous. The earth will shed man,the species, before man can ever kill the planet.
When you really think about it, man is a pretty fragile species.

I'm just wondering if I should start changing my landscaping to cactus and replace the grass with sand. I like to be ahead of the curve when patterns settle down.

I'm still wondering where the ice age is that scientists were predicting back in the '70s. They had people scared shitless (including a young ME) with all this talk of the next impending ice age that was on the way.

I'm of the mindset that we're in a warming trend, not because of anything man did, but because thats the way things are going naturally. Solar activity is going nuts lately. This planet is billions of years old. We have absolutely no way to tell what type of warming or cooling trends took place thousands or even millions of years ago. I do recall however, one statement that was made by some prominent climate scientist that said "The earth is at it's warmest in about 140,000 years." To this I say...what was the climate like 200,00 years ago? How about 400,00 years ago? We're so fixated on ONLY what we've been able to record and document that it literally blinds us to the full picture.

Yep, we're in a nasty warming trend. When mother nature is done PMSing, she'll calm down and chill out.
    No excuses!

There are many reasons that there is climate change on our planet....but anyone who believes the the actions of humans have had no impact on the change....is a fool. To what degree is open to debate.
