Running without a sub for.....

Man the quest continues..

I set up my 5.0 lsi system(Lsi 15's,LsiC,Lsi/fx) in my livingroom untill we get to the basement.

Man without a sub it just isn't the same.It sounds really good but without a good quality sub to fill in the bottom it just doesn't have the weight or Impact.

I ran Matrix reloaded and **** guys I was almost dissapointed. The level of detail is off my chart but the Impact just isn't there.......

We n o longer carry REL so I would have to order one.We have the Velodyne's in stock and the more I play with them the more I want one.I don't think it has better sound quality(DD12) then the REL(Storm III)but does seem to have more output......maybe.The new digital series is something else.Velodyne has always been an Impressive sub company. So suprised I am not.

The DD12 is 500.00 more then the Strom III.....riight now I'm thinking about is it worth the extra cost or not.REL I believe wins in overall sound quality but now by a longshot....slighty cleaner and only after an hour of switching back and forth(I had to use a REL Q201E for the demo as we are all out of Storms III's...sucks 2)

I'll snap some pic's...just been so busy with the house, work and blowing off steam......

    Dan,
good luck on your quest. I am still in the market for the second sub for two channel, but has become more and more unmotivated to spend the money (unless I can find a screaming deal) since I've been very satisfied with LSi9's ability in delivering respectable low end. On music, I have to believe that there is not much info down there, unlike LFE on HT. But, Christmas is around the corner for excuses to spend the money :D

btw, there are still pocket of Tweeter carry the remaining inventory on REL, although for HT, I am convinced now to seriously consider SVS..way too many happy owners' feedbacks to ignore.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

i dont know what kind of music u listen to but music without a sub for me is like a sandwich without anything in it. the bass from music sounded so much better on my rti150s (i know they arent powered seperate subwoofers but whatever) then on my rti70s. i cant wait to get a sub to fill in all that im missing.

    Doc,
I know man but I just have this problem buying a sub over the internet, trying it out here,if it 's not for me,packing it back up and sending it back.....but with all the talk about there sub's...I would really like to hear one go.Man I just gotta come up to your place one of these days.........

    Polkatese,
with already owning a Storm II I don't see any need for a sub down grade or side grade or any way you want to look at it.Your REL is one of the very best sub's out there. It crushes everything I have heard at and under it's price point of 2k.Your sub is what I need to find..........something to beat it...no luck so far.Even the migthy Velodyne DD12 is not beating it....funny 2 as it's 500.00 bucks more.

    Airplay355,
I can feel that or lack there of....

My Lsi15's are great for 2 channel all by themselves, but I still perfer a sub with em.They do it for me but theater is a totally different story.Music for me yeah I can feel a sub coming in.....

Dan, imagine the possibility: if Q201E is slightly *better* than DD12, then that's pretty impressive. I am not into shoot out too much, since I strongly believed that it's all about matching. Even if DD12 is better sounding, it still beg the question whether it will match with the LSis. I had the Storm for almost a year now, and yet still appreciated its ability to transparently blend with the 15. But what is interesting, it's all boil down to the source and recording quality. Crappy recording bothers me even more with this combo, since I can't do anything to fix it. It becomes more and more about the quality of the recording, as opposed to contents. For instance, Patricia Barber *Cafe Blue*: for content, it isn't exactly my favorite, but recording quality is top notch. Instruments come out in full details along with her amazing vocal. So, I played them often because I love to hear the emotions conveyed by its contents (especially track 11). Enough with the rambling...Please go out and audition SVS and let us know your impression of it.

Dan - get your hiney over to Dave's house, as I believe his PB2+ is pretty well set-up.

Otherwise, you are always welcome here, and I know my PB2+ is well set-up. And I've got a concrete floor - big plus there. It is remarkable on music - coherent, neutral, detailed, and completely unobtrusive.

Also 45 day return on SVS. They come back and get it - just save the box. No trouble or paperwork on your end.

Mantis, as Doc and others have suggested...no, TOLD me and other Polkheads about how much we/they will like their SVS, you will kick yourself in the **** for saying what you said above when it comes time to fire up your new SVS, or at least listen to somebody elses first. ;)

To give you an example, like there haven't been any on this sub. My wife and I watched K19 over the weekend and from start to finish my room (19x25x9) never stopped shaking for more then a few min. more often then not very violently to the point that the china in the dinning room (15x15) had all the contents rattling and had my wife worried that things were going to break. I can only imagine what is in store next with the other movies I have to watch over with the SVS. If you ever have the need E-mail me and I will have you over to audition unless Doc's closer, I'm in West Middlesex.

    Good luck in your quest
Just remember there will be no regrets with an SVS

Dave - for kicks, run 2/20 for the scene where the sub breaks through the ice. There is a boatload (sorry) of subsonic info there that the 3/25 setting cuts out. One of the few DVDs that has legit infrasonic info present.

Kevin's PC+ will already root it out without needing to be tuned lower.

    Dan - pull the trigger.

I ran it at 3/16 with the gain at half. Just tring things in different settings, that was a wild ride. I'll give the 2/20 a try.
