If you have to replace the start cap, I would recommend the Clarity Cap ESA at least.
And maybe upgrade the power supply (VH style for the wiring?).
Maybe put the unit on spikes if you can?
Mine seems to be colder after the "upgrades"!
    Hope this helps Tony!

I had a company come out and check out my system. They want to replace the outside unit , coil and all lines. Then replace the current thermostat with a much better unit.

Job's gonna cost me 3500.00 , I think it's very worth the money especially when it gets to 100+ outside and my current system can't get the house under 83 F . it takes all night and into the morning non stop running to get the house to 74 F and at this time it's 70 F outside. It's been acting up the last few years and honestly I think its never ran properly so I'm excited about the upgrade.

They are Installing a full Rheem system.

it's only 8 going on 9 years old. It is as old as my house is. We had the house built in 2003. It's been acting up for years and I'm finally sick and tired of guys coming to my house and telling me different things why it doesn't work right. So I decided to get it all out and get a better unit in the Rheem system which is rated 1 and 2 depending on where you read about it.
I'm not happy at all about this as I change the filter 4 to 6 times or more a year, had the coil cleaned , had the pressure checked which is what no one can get right or figure out why it doesn't have the right readings. And my cool to heat exchange difference is only 10 deg. It is suppose to be 20 deg difference or more.

Dan, I understand. 10 deg is really bad, does your neighbors have the same problem? I've seen houses that are not built correct, and the owners have problems later. If I had to guess your AC system is too big, or the fan is too fast.
