Hey guys, I have the Polk CSiA6 for my center, a pair of Polk RTiA6's for my surrounds, and now a pair of R-50 tower speakers for my front L and R. Is this a good match for 100% home theater or should I be looking at replacing speakers?

The center and surrounds you have are fantastic speakers! Great gear, especially for HT use.

Those R-50 towers can be looked at as entry-level fronts, something to hold you over short term, perhaps. They are very much out of their league with your other speakers. You really should look into matching up your system with preferably the RTiA9s or RTiA7s. The R-50s are more suited to be matched with something like R15 surrounds, a CS1 center and a PSW10 subwoofer.

Add the RTiA7s or 9s and THEN, you'd have a seriously terrific sounding system - as long as you have some serious power to drive them with.

So is my CSiA6 going to drown out my R-50 towers? I was using the RTi6 bookshelves as my fronts, but I thought towers would match up a bit better...

It's not a matter of "drowning out" the center or vise versa....it's more a matter of creating a more cohesive front sound-stage by using identical drivers. The CSiA6 is voice-matched with the RTi and RTiA's, and the RTi6's will do a better job of creating that cohesiveness.

Beyond that, the RTi6's have MUCH better sound-quality overall than the R50's (I've owned both). Towers aren't "louder" or better by virture of being towers.

I wouldn't throw money at A7 and certainly not for A9s if HT is your main use, although matching the center with Rti A line is a good idea. The towers have an auxiliary role when u use a center. I don't know how much money you make, but getting these huge towers and then amps to power them sounds like a waste. Take a listen carefully next time u watch a movie and check how much do u hear from the towers.

Better get A5s or A3 or A1 even with some nice stands and a good subwoofer. Less intrusive to the room space than A7 or A9.

teekay and mystik said it right. As mystik implied, you could use the bookies as your mains and move the R50's to surround. As teekay said, with either A7's or A9's as your mains, you'd have one awesome H.T.

Power is needed to drive those big towers, but if you're into H.T. like most of us here on the forum, getting quality gear and the means to drive it is never a waste, for anyone to even suggest that is obviously wasting their time here.

Thanks guys. I was never a tower guy as I have always had adequate subs. I now have 2 Shiva-x drivers in 200L enclosures, tuned to 17hz with 500W each. The Shivas have 27mm of Xmax.....getting LFE from a tower just seems silly to my with these kind of subs.

My HT budget after building the subs, getting the CSiA6, setting up the projector..etc etc is SMALL. LOL. So when I saw the R-50's for $99 each, I thought it was a decent purchase. I guess I'll have to move them to the surrounds... Or sell them and get the RTiA3's....

Now yer talking! I've heard great things about those A3's. What kind of AVR will you be using?

My trusty Yamaha HTR-6260. Not high end, but its served me well. And with the monster subs, I'm always -15 from reference anyways. :D
