All of this amounts to approximately doodley squat when applied to a modest receiver pushing some Monitor 7s.:lol:

Perhaps. But one of the benefits of this forum is a reader has the opportunity to learn something. Granted, some people are not interested in learning anything, but that is their problem. Others, such as myself, appreciate knowledge, irrespective of whether it is useful in a particular situation or not.

Yeah, fine, but, time and time again it has been surmised here and elsewhere, that putting hi dollar wires on an admittedly lo end rig is somewhat tantamount to fitting a $10 horse with a $100 saddle. Now, this premise seems to have been abandoned, completely. Never a dull moment where the great, unending cable debate is concerned ! Wiring the OP's rig with MIT top o the line wires is fine with me, although.....I can honestly say that I'd not be inclined to do it, personally.

Personally, what I would do in the OP's position is double up some 14 ga, (Monster Cable or not).
2x14ga to each speaker, CHEAP and effective.

All the OP wanted to do is fix the ends to his cables so he could use his M-7s on his Kenwood! Where did all this other stuff come from and why?

I think all questions concerning the "original" post have already been answered. If we're going to have yet "another" cable debate...let it be a "new" thread!

I have to say the older Monstercable is most definitely not oxygen-free and is subject to oxidation. Long ago when I bought my Monitors 10's (used), the guy threw in a 20' pair of original Monsters with the factory terminations. One day, out of the blue, I noticed my speakers sounded really bad. I looked at the speaker cable and the outer jacket had turned yellow and the copper had turned green pretty much from end to end. It was bad enough that I had to discard the cables.

I've also got to agree with what many others have previously stated. There are differences in copper purity and it does matter. Additional inductance/capacitance of less pure wire can/will affect the sound.

+1+ posts 34-36! Lots of goods points in the posts on purity & grain - the most worthwhile info in a (derailed cable) thread to date.

Sadly this thread did derail... I wish knew how to post a sticky saving everyone else's time & cyber-electrons for bigger issues!

Kudos to Pep's post (#35) both simple & cheap - netting 11ga wire following my mo' bigga' mo' output mantr for the same input.

A personal opinion that is also false.

"Copper quality is never referred to with a series of 9's in the metals industry, it is referred to with CDA numbers. The CDA number verifies that the copper is measured and certified to a specific purity standard. There are many grades: CDA 104, CDA 103, 102 and 101. CDA 101 copper is the highest purity copper on the metals market. It comes with papers that prove its authenticity. This is the copper that Shunyata Research purchases and uses in every product from signal cables to power cords as well as in Guardian Pro and Hydra Model conditioners.

The majority of cable manufacturers buy their wire pre-made from major US or overseas suppliers. In many cases, it will be the least expensive wire available given that it is hidden from view. There are a few exceptions such as Siltech and Cardas, among others. Shunyata Research is one of the few companies that purchases its own CDA 101 copper in raw ingot form. The copper is then drawn into all the wire forms that are used throughout the Shunyata line. The power cords, power distributors and signal cables all benefit from this top quality material. More than that, using completely matched metallurgy lends a symmetry and coherence to the performance of any system. Given the sheer volume of wire that connects and powers all the components, a power and signal wiring system is an integral component unto itself. Purchasing CDA 101 copper and having it made from scratch into the many wire compliments is an expensive process but is a critical component of Shunyata's success -- attention to_every_detail."

I just f fixed up my Polk Monitor 10B's with 12AWG CL2 Rated 2-Conductor Speaker Cable from Monoprice.
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10239&cs_id=1023901&p_id=2817&seq=1&format=2

There is better speaker cable I suppose but for the price you can't beat Monoprice. In the future I plan in a set of Cardas cables from Blue Jeans Cable but I right now the Monoprice will do.

I also purchased 20 pair Banana Plugs - Closed Screw Type [JX-74043]
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10401&cs_id=1040115&p_id=2801&seq=1&format=2

Interestingly I also replaced a set of 25 year old Monster Cables after all of those years of use the ends are corroded in order to use them again I am going to have to cut at least 3 inches off of each end. The Monoprice speaker wire is much more supple then I thought it would be is very easy to work with and string out to the speakers. The Banana plugs are of good quality and fit snugly into the female jacks on the 10B's. Needless to say there is a big improvement in sound over the old corroded Monster Cables. Monoprice has another style of banana plug "open screw type" with this one the wire is inserted into the side at a 90% angle to the axis of the plug, and would make for a nice low profile install on the speaker connectors. Below is a nice tutorial on the various types banana plugs Monoprice sells. Note the speaker cable used is the same type and gauge I ordered. Incidentally you will see the type of terminators used on your monster cable "Pin" connectors.

As with all of my orders from Monoprice they quickly shipped my order and it arrived in very good time.
