~550 dollars for a new reciever

So heres the deal. I have a budget of between 500-700 for a new to me receiver. Doesnt have to be NIB, but does need a warranty of some sort (so refurbs are ok). I would prefer something around the 500 dollar mark (so I can get some new headphones with the leftover) but I am willing to blow it all on the receiver if its justified.
Here is what I need:
1. More than 4 HDMI 1.4 ports
2. Upscale composite video (Xbox, SNES, Nintendo, etc) and send over HDMI
3. Pre-outs for at least 7 channels. Pre-outs for 7 + heights/wides would be nice but not required
4. Ability to drive one set of small bookshelf 4 ohm speakers if no pre-outs for heights/wides
5. EQ in the form of Audyssey XT or higher OR ARC
6. IEC Plug
Here is my current setup:
TV: Panasonic 60" TC-P60ST30 Plasma
Receiver: Integra DTR 5.9
Amps: Carver TFM-35 (driving front left/right), Carver AV-705x (driving center and surrounds)
Fronts: Polk LSi 15
Center: Polk LSiC
Surrounds : Polk LSi F /x
Sources: Samsung BDP-1600, Xbox 360, Pioneer Laserdisc, Super Nintendo, N64, Uverse DVR
I will be adding more vintage consoles, but building a rolling console center so I can move them close to the person playing them (since old console's are not wireless). The console center will have a switch of some sort and be connected to just one input on the reciever.
I have on my short list the following receivers:
Onkyo TX-NR809
Denon AVR-3311CI
DENON AVR-3312CI
Anthem MRX-300 (assuming I can get a deal on it and while its only got 4 HDMI for ARC I am willing to make an exception)
Thoughts?

Marantz seems to be making its name more prominent here lately
OutlawAudio.com sells them- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

The only Marantz that are close to budget is the SR6005 (Its actually 550 on the nose since there is no shipping). How does that stack up to say the Onkyo 809 (610 with shipping)?
**edit** its only got Audyssey MultiEQ "....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -

hehehe, 2 problems John. Its got no pre-outs and it uses a different EQ than I am wanting .
You are really stuck on them Pio's now huh....

Love the Pioneer SC models and you can always add an external sub EQ down the road for a couple hundred bucks.

yep... for what I need from it for video processing, it rocks. If you can strech a bit you can get the SC 61 for less than a grand. The MCACC works very well. Here's my beef. I find my AVR is slow at doing this and there is latency especially when playing a game on the PS2 which is what I first used. I actually run a composite out from my AVR to my TV to bypass the video processing because I don't like it. Has this been corrected in today's AVR's?
And I'm sorry. I don't know what to suggest other than a Pioneer. -

I haven't any problems with the Wii (before I sold it) or my Laserdisc player via my DTR 5.9 over HDMI. I will check my Xbox later this weekend just for giggles. And I'm sorry. I don't know what to suggest other than a Pioneer.

Cant go over budget on this . My hard limit is 700 and realistically I need it to be 550 so I can get the headphones."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." It could be different processing chips. IIRC when I bought my VSX-23, there was a few Denon's that had even better up-converting chips at the time. Probably my only beef with the Elite AVR's of that generation. There is noticeable lag on anything which must be converted to HDMI. You turn it off and the lag is gone. We are talking about not quite half a second in delay whether joystick or button input.
Don't skimp out on this. Make the right choice and buy once! Even if it mean you may have to spend a bit more and hold off on cans for a month. -
Sorry in advance for my ignorance - I just ordered the Onkyo 709 for sub 500 shipped. Its looking to me like your best option would be the 809 however - and it seems like you're looking at the same site as me - but other than the power deficit of 15 per channel what else is the difference between the 709 vs 809? Ever think of the 709 instead?

The 809 has a removeable powercord (which the 709 doesnt) as well as a MUCH better face IMHO. Otherwise they are just about identical. For my purposes I want to spend the cash now so I have NO PROBLEM driving a set of LSi 7's or LSi 9's for heights/wides off the reciever. I could potentially see the 709 running out of gas.
By no means am I knocking the 709 as it was initially what I was going to go with, but I really want to have a removeable powercord and the 709 doesnt have that feature, and the 809 has a much beefier amp section."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Some things from the Onkyo site that make the 809 different are:
135 wpc rather than 110
Push/Pull design
HQV Vida VHD1900 Video Processor 1080p upscaling
Optical input on the front panel
Multichannel inputs
Thats about it."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -

Solves the pre-out problem, but not the eq.

I have the 3312....it is unreal. I absoutly love it. However for 550 i dont think you can find one for that. You might look at the next step down and have most all of the same features. it is the 2312 if it is anything like my 3312 you wont be disapointed. Plus it comes with the audyssey room eq correction, which doesnt do a bad job. I tweeked my a bit but it did a good job.Harman kardon signature 2.1 amp

Sorry, didnt see about the pre outs. The 33 and 43 series of denon are the only ones with 7ch pre outs. You might look into a good used 3311 there is no difference between the 3311 and 3312 other than air play and the gui is nicer looking and easier to use on the 3312. 550 might still be pushing it thoughHarman kardon signature 2.1 amp

Yup, the 3311 and 3312 are on the list. Both can be had for around 500-600 at Accessories4less as manufacture refurbs:
3311 ~545 shipped to my door
3312 ~615 shipped to my door
The budget now is looking more like 620ish since my main possibility is the Onkyo 809. Maybe a Pio model in the mix too (SC-61) but I have to re-educate myself about MCACC compared to Audyssey..."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Real simple. Run full setup, Verify your speaker size, levels and crossovers to ensure you have the the right settings (e.g. - Large, Small). You may choose to run another (not a full) scan. Then boost your sub by a couple DB and you`re done.
It`s really that simple. -
I know you ruled out the 709 but right now onkyo is having a special on a refurbish 709 for 356.00 out the door....
Go to www.shoponkyo.com the sign up for club onkyo and get 17% off all refurbs plus $10 for new members who join.
This brings the NR709 to $356 or $346 if you are new -

Will it let you set xovers independent of each other or not? I.E. set the LSi 15's at like 50 and the center and surrounds at like 65?"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." No. Probably the only thing people complain about is the single crossover you set for all speakers. Settings are IIRC: 50, 80, 100, 120 & 150hz low-pass. However, this MAY be different in today`s MCACC software. I`m not sure. My Elite is a `09 model I believe. There are 3 generations much newer then mine. Get your read on.
I would set the xover at 80hz. Only your mains can do with a xover of 50hz. -
Scrap that...

The 809 is MUCH cheaper at accessories4less.com (610 shipped to my door) and its still from an authorized reseller"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." True, but with an Onkyo I can set it to 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 80... hehehehe.....
I will get my read on about that model but I think your right Drenis in that its one xover for them all."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
