A man who yelled an expletive at former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley on his final day in office was sentenced Friday to three years in prison.
Janusz Kopycinski, 31, yelled "F*** the mayor!" and spat in the mayor's general direction as a crowd gathered outside City Hall as Daley left one last time as mayor on May 13, 2011, according to police, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Police officers proceeded to request identification, causing Kopycinski to run. Police made chase and one of the officers was grazed by a moving CTA bus during the pursuit.
The officer sustained minor, non-life-threatening abrasions in the grazing, but the injury was enough for charges against Kopycinski to be elevated from misdemeanor resisting arrest.
Kopycinski, who testified in court that he meant no harm to anyone, was found guilty in April of aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest in the incident, NBC Chicago reports.
The man faced up to seven years in prison, charges further elevated in light of a 2007 arrest for battery to police where Kopycinski was found guilty but mentally ill.

Sounds to me IMO a violation of 1st amendment rights under the color of law. The initial harassment/arrest attempt was for exercising his rights of free political speech.>

Chicago, along with many others, has every avenue tied up. From the state legislator, to the city mayor, council, cook county, judges, lawyers, police, and everyone inbetween is in their back pocket. You have to go along to get along or they can set you up for a fall that will land you behind bars if you push back too hard. The cronyism is simply out of control in this state. I said back in 08 that the current occupant of the oval office would bring chicago style politics to the national stage.
At most, the guy maybe could be charged with disorderly conduct. Not his fault the cop ran infront of a bus. I suppose if the cop tripped over his own feet and killed himself he would have been charged with manslaughter. Different sets of rules for joe sixpack and those in power. Not a single person ever went to jail for Fast and Furious in which a border agent died because of a stupid policy. There's a cushion, a maze of roadblocks set up to avoid accountabilty by those in power. We as citizens have no such cushion. Part of the problem is it has become legal for those who represent you and your interests to lie to you, but illegal for you to lie to them.

It's called dropping the radical pose for the radical ends. Look how well Chitown shined up the likes of Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn. It is no coincidence that Chicago is home to the most radical and extreme thought in the U.S. In this regard they have no equal. The entire place should be used for an above ground nuke test IMHO.

Also, if this clown had just 1. Shown his ID, and 2. NOT run, he would have given a citation, and been on his way.

Spitting on someone could be considered a form of assault. Spitting in someones direction is a long established form of expressing dislike or hatred. It could be considered speech, just as giving one the finger. Political figures must submit to free speech expression from the people they govern. It is what separates the U.S. from other forms of government.>
