Were all original SDA 1 speakers considered "signature" speakers? How do the original SDA 1's compare to the SDA 2b?

    No.
How do the original SDA 1's compare to the SDA 2b?

The 2B's are the better speaker.

The original SDA 1 had a vented cabinet. The 1A eliminated the vent.

Polk had an "update kit" to convert the 1 to a 1A. The vents were plugged with wood dowels, then--I think--the dowels were covered with a brass plaque having Polk's signature. I did a quick look at the 1-to-1A Signature instructions, but could not find a reference to the signature plaque. Maybe I'm hallucinating about the brass plaque.

And don't confuse these "signatures" with the "Signature Reference Series" SDA's.
