Never hear alot of talk about projector screens here and wondered what screen you guys are using?

I currently have a little 90" for goofing around in my BD room. I bought it for $90 but then checked amazon and its shot back up to$200 so that was a good score. For my main theater I use a HC grey fixed frame thats a 110" and its a nice snap on screen that dont sag like the one in my bd room eventually will. I would like to go the whole hog in a 235:1 with anamorphic lens for true cinema experience some day soon

+1 gain white elite manual pulldown screen 150inches diagonal.

It was cheap but works very well. The wall worked great too, but a screen makes it exponentially better.

I used to have that exact same screen in the 150" too. The thing was a monster but the bottom bar had unevenly been fastened to the material causing a wave that was noticeable when the camera panned. Appart from that I loved the color and playing ps3 games on it and it only cost me $200 shipped at the time. The price is way higher now

Screen Innovations Performance series 1.1 gain screen. It is fantastic, great build quality. I also have seen the elite screens 4k AT material it is great, not quite as good build quality as the screen Innovations but still not bad

yeah, there is a little bit of material is coming loose on my bottom too but hasn't caused a ripple yet. I got mine under $200 shipped as well. Many online stores say the shipping is free until they see how big it is. I found mine at gpscheap.com. I have no idea what gps has to do with the projector screens but they had it and honored the price and shipping.

by the way pfb, thanks for the leads on projectors. Now my head is swimming with specs and such. I think I'll be making a decision sometime soon. As soon as I find a projector that I think is perfect, it's listed as having too much lag, or too noisy, or too much ghosting, whatever. But, I have a feeling anyone of them would be better than my older sharp projector which still works quite well.

I have a fixed frame Stewart Filmscreen StudioTek 130 that is 108" wide. Gain is supposed to be 1.3 but the screen is microperforated so the gain is down by 10%.

Unfortunately, my original setup was a NEC CRT which was about 150lbs. The aspect ratio of the screen was set at 1.85 (which is the native for most movies back then). Now when I watch movies, there is a small 2-3" black border on each side since most films are set for 16:9 or 1.78 now. I upgraded to a Marantz VP12S3 which was 1280x720 but later changed it to a JVC RS-1. Have had no regrets since then.

My setup consists of an Onkyo TX-NR906 AV receiver, Pioneer BDP-05FD Elite Blu-ray player, a Denon DVD-3930 DVD player as sources. The speakers in the front are Polk RT55is (sometimes I use a pair of Sony SS-M9s for the LR). The surrounds are all HK Citation speakers.

I also have a DarbeeVision Darblet inline with the projector. Anyone with a front projector or a large flat panel screen should invest in one. This is an image detailer. I don't understand how it works but it enhances detail in the image without adding any artifacts or edge enhancement. This box costs $270 and is worth every cent.

I use a cheap motorized 108" screen from monoprice since I have it hidden in the ceiling of my home theater room. It's OK, but there is some curling on the edges, which can be annoying. I bought it back before they offered the motorized, tensioned screens that they have now.

    Hey jons

    Does that thing really work?

I have an epson 5010 arriving on Monday and it has a thing called super resolution built in that I have yet to see. That little box sounds very interesting so I may have to try one out with the super resolution feature to see if there is a further improvement.

I'm watching a video on it right now about the history behind it with the creator. He started this in the 70's but left it he then goes on about he invented the universal remote and owns universal electronics

I will definitely share my thoughts B Run. Congrats on the Sony S790. I love mine also. I tried everything under the sun and it works very well. Not sure if the dual core CPU helps much, but with networking it is extremely fast. From finding files to playback, streaming is really good. BD playback/audio is superb, with a very nice and sharp image. I'm curious to see what the Darbee adds to the equation.

Those VA screens look really nice with that big thick border round them

I just bought an elite screens model this morning. Thinking back to that 150" pull down I used to have I loved the bright color pop it gave me. The model I bought was a 235:1 166 inch monster and I can add a panamorph 480 lens later on and just overshoot it for now with the 5010. Most 3D movies are 16:9 so I can just move the pj closer to fill it and still have a big bright 3D picture

I've been hanging screens for many years and by far the overall best on the market is Stewart. They make the Industry standard which all others try and follow. They also cost the most but you get what you pay for here.

Bang for the buck I like the Dragon Fly screens which are cost effective and have little hot spotting especially for the money.

I've done a few Black diamonds and I was unimpressed especially for the cost. They are not in Stewarts league yet try and claim prices close to them. I'd rather have a Da-lite which is a nice alternative. Another would be Draper.

You really can't go wrong with the top 3 in Stewart , Da-lite or Draper. All others follow far behind. It's also a matter of money vs quality. Good screen are not cheap , cheap screen are well cheap but can fit a budget and still do a nice job.

I've seen the paint on wall screen and it's ok at best. Color never seemed quite right and if you don' sand your wall perfectly , you see all your mistakes. That sucked in one house I saw this.

I saw a review and the closest screen to match the accuracy of the stewart was the cheap elite material so thats why I chose that. For me it gives me everything I need without costing as much as a car. If you ask me stewart is way over priced even though its one of the best. I though the joe kane screens were better than stewart?

One thing I like about my cheap Elite is that it has no sweet spot for watching. Friends can be outside smoking and looking through from the side can see it perfectly. No hotspots. That was one thing that turned me off about lcd's and rear projection, only those seated in the right spot could see the picture well.

I did see online on youtube a stewart screen with one of the projector reviews. I could tell right away that image was popping out like nothing my elite will do. But, $$$$
