Looking for service/update resource for SDA SRS 1.2

I tried contacting Polk Audio in Baltimore, but so far no information about refresh/update service for the SDA SRS 1.2 speakers. Mine seem to be working well but I wanted to find a firm or individual that can give them a "tune up" and take care of any problems found.

If anyone can recommend a shop or individual in the Virginia/Maryland/Pennsylvania/New Jersey area that has experience with servicing the SDA SRS 1.2 speakers, please let me know. (I may also be able to use a resource in the Lexington, KY area.) Thanks for any references you can provide.

    Hello,
I can highly recommend the folks at Soundscape, located in Baltimore, MD. They are the original Polk dealer and have a great deal of experience with all things Polk, past and present. They have a web site and you can call them at 410-889-1134 after 12:00 noon every day except Sunday and Monday.
    Cheers, Ken

Polk won't have that information as they are not in that end of the business. What exactly are you looking to have done?

    Thanks for the response.

The speakers seem to be in good working order. With their age and with an upcoming move I wanted to have them inspected by someone that knows these speakers, have any routine service provided, have any routine (and reasonably priced) updates performed. If I was going to store them until the move, I thought I may as well try to find a knowledgeable serice shop. Hopefully the costs for the inspection/service/minor upgrades would be known, and then any other problems found during the inspection could be dealt with now or (if necessary because of cost) later.

While this is my first attempt to locate shops or individuals familiar with the SDA/SRS speakers, the forums gave me some hope that there may be resources available.

There is no routine service, but there are upgrades. Your crossover components are over 20 years old and should be replaced with high quality film/foil caps, not electrolytic as the stock ones are. Upgrade the resistors to Mills 12 watt, add Dynamat Extreme to all the stamped steel baskets, apply JB Weld to the magnets to prevent shifting (especially important since you are moving), upgrade the tweeters to the new RD0194-1 (RD0198-1 if yours are 1.2TL's), add a set of high quality spikes, get a set of Gimpod's crossover boards, if he has any extras and install hurricane nuts/cap screws to replace the stock driver screws. All of that is not cheap, but well worth the money and will result in vastly improved sound as well as adding years of life to the speakers.
