And I LOVE the oak. It's something different other than black. When I was poking around inside, it appears your can't replace the end caps with something other than whats on there now. As in, not in the same way as 1.2/2.3's from what I have seen/read so far. Sure love the ones in the FM.

Musky was making some custom SDA panels for other SDA models, you might be able to convince him to do a set for you in a cool finish.

They are glued and stapled on. You have to pry them off. Start on the back edge.

So a short story for every member here who has a significant other who you are always afraid will tell you to "Get rid of it".

My girlfriend comes home yesterday to see the TL's setup in place of the A9's. I had previously told her about these, described the SDA effect (as what I thought I knew of it) and other little details. So she comes home and I have a internet radio station playing VERY low and we chat about the day. I bring her into the living room and show her the setup and boast about how good the oak looks with the all black face and drivers (She HATED the A9's naked). So began to comment on the appearance. She loved how they filled the open space and how they looked naked. ESPECIALLY the tops. So she sits down on the couch (ironically in the sweet spot) and we continue to talk...

There is some song by Metallica playing and a finger flies up and she says "Wait!... turn the volume up". So I turn it up a bit. I'm still a bit shocked she just interrupted our conversation. She looked straight and listened a moment then turned to me and said, "Well you're going to fell like a pig in **** now. I hear that dimensional thing you were talking about." A small grin formed on my face. So I sat down and asked if she wanted a demo? She said sure. So we sat for 30 minutes and I played some songs that are very familiar to her (She has picked up on changes in the sound from her choice songs when I've swapped gear/cables). I briefly explain the drawback about the speakers and how the tweeters "suck". So on to the demo...

We start with the first three songs off Coheed & Cambria's - Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV. First song is a orchestrated piece and I turned it up. It's a beautiful piece that has honestly, never sounded so good. She had tears by the end of that song... After the second song played, she turned to me as I sat far away from the sweet spot and said "That's the most beautiful music I've ever heard. I've never been so pulled into a song". I just kept smiling with this big grin in my head as if to say "I told you I knew what I was doing when I bought these". On to the 3rd song (Welcome Home), her favorite. This song has never really sounded good before. I use that as a loose term because I'm sure it's not the best recording. However, halfway through the song, my girlfriend turns to me and smiles. "You are never changing ANYTHING in this stereo. This is perfect... I like them a lot more than the A9's. You really feel the bass in your chest wow". After that we listened together to some other pieces she enjoys.

Success. I am happier then a pig in **** right now. Even though they are a bit from perfect, these speakers are something special. Knowing how it sounds now, I could never go back to what I had a year ago. Thinking about it makes me sick.

Now you see what all the talk about SDA's is about and why many of us love them so much and are so passionate about NOT parting them out, etc. Every one that is parted it out is one less SDA out there.

Enjoy and just know that they will get even better (by a wide margin) when you get the proper tweets and eventually re-do the x-voer with more modern premium parts.

Congrats, I had one of those moments with my wife when I first set up the SDA's. She loved the sound and was amazed at how much she didn't hear before. Like some older Stevie Wonder stuff with Birds chirping and some guy talking in the background. She was floored.

It makes it easier to justify the cost of upgrades and better equipment.

Cool story, I have yet to find a girl who will NOT roll her eyes when I talk about my SDA's but I have definitely had those wow moments with non-audio people before. SDA's are something special.

My RDO198 tweets are here! Off to install them and let the burn in begin!

BTW, looks like Canadian customers are exempt from the benefits US Club Polk members receive (discount, shipping). Never the less, I'm still happy to have the best customer service experience. Hell they shipped the tweeters before my cheque even cleared. Polk CS really is top notch!

"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....
