Replacing the tweeter on my polk monitor 7

Hi there. I have a pair of gorgeous Polk Monitor 7's and one of the tweeters needs to be replaced. I know that the standard replacement is an RDO-194. I decided I liked the sl-2000 so I just bought a used one that is in great shape. My question is: How do I go about replacing the sl-2000 tweeter? I know I need to unscrew it from the speaker and take it out, but I was hoping someone could give me some detailed guidance on what to do.
If this is in the wrong section I apologize. I am new to this forum and this looked like the place I should for questions of this nature. Thanks for all of your help!

How do you know you like the SL2000 better if you haven't tried the RD0194-1?
Anyway, unscrew the tweeter, disconnect the two leads, reverse.Political Correctness'.........defined

Welcome ! Unscrew the outer 4 screws ONLY do not touch the inner 4 or bad things will happen to your "new" tweeter !

I decided I liked the sl-2000 better because now I only have to replace one tweeter I've read somewhat mixed reviews on the 194's although most have been positive. -

I've pretty much only read bad reviews about the sl-2000 tweeter. I know I don't like them. The RD0-194 is a much better tweeter than the sl-2000 in every aspect, IMO of course.

My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

That's why I asked where he read a bad review. The only one I can think of is from that banned whack job Carl who hangs out at AK now.Political Correctness'.........defined

AK has its fair share of mixed Polk reviews. When I first registered, yourself, H9 and others convinced me to go ahead and make the swap to the RD0-194. You also warned me that they would change over the first 100 hours give or take a bit and to not jump to any conclusions.
The last AK thread I tried to follow on Polk speakers was a tweeter swap that went exactly as outlined to me here. Sounded pretty good right after the swap then got worse before they finally settled in. That would be good information if you can find it in six pages of the Polk bashing that is bound to ensue.
whalecliff: Unless it would be a financial hardship it is well worth making the swap. Discounts for Club Polk members even. -
hi all new here and i have a question . have rti8s and suddenly they have a lack of highs in stero mode is totally different i thing is the tweeter but both of them sound the same. how can i be sure that the tweeters are damage??

That's really the only place that I've seen that sort of rhetoric, which shocks me every time I see it. People on AK talking about all this "uncertainty and controversy surrounding the RD- replacements vs. the stock SLs". Looks like they're drinking the Kool Aid over there! lol

Your Rtis have two terminals on the back. Remove the jumper (metal strips that connect the top and bottom terminals). Then connect the speaker wire to the top terminals (which should be to the tweeters) and see if you hear any highs?

thanks CNH for your prompt answer ill do that this evening and see
thanks again -
did the test , and there is no sound from the tweeters. ill order the replacements from polk. meanwhile, i can i keep the connection as it is i mean just keep the lower terminals connected and no jumpers?
where can i find instructions to remove the tweeters?
thanks in advance -
Hmmm, well as for the bad reviews I can go find them if you really want proof of them, but I'll take your word for it. I am going to stick with the sl2000 for the moment because right now I am strapped for cash and that is the cheaper option. I will probably make the switch to the RDO-194's at some point though. However, I am wondering how the RDO-194's stack up against peerless tweeters. I have seen that some people have swapped their sl-2000 for peerless. Any thoughts?

Thanks, but I don't need proof, I'm well aware that there folks out there with their head up their a$$.
The RD0194-1 is better than the Peerless. Besides, your crosovers are not designed for the Peerless and the opening is a different size.Political Correctness'.........defined

I agree with F1nut. The Peerless is a good tweeter (I have some in some Monitor 10A's) but the RD0-194 is better. I would take either of them WAY before the sl-2000. As Jesse said, the Peerless won't fit into your monitor 7 tweeter openings without modification. Plus, as Jesse brought up the crossovers in your 7's aren't electrically correct for the Peerless so why bother thinking about it? Unless you plan on electrically and physically modifying your 7's, forget about it. Again, just get the RD0-194 as Jesse suggested.

Well, I guess I'll go with the RDO-194's then. I'm fairly new to this whole game; this is my first system so I'm just bouncing around ideas based upon what I've read. I definitely would rather not fool around with the electronics or physically modify the speakers and risk damaging the sound. Thanks for all of your input guys. Sorry to be a pain in the butt. Like I said, right now I will probably with the sl2000's only because of money, but I really appreciate the help and the input especially from people who have a lot more experience with this than me.
