TL-250 Blackstone & Denon 1612 - optimize Bass without Sub-woofer?

Hi,

I just purchased a Denon 1612 Receiver and Polk TL-250 (5.1 5 pack) speakers and am having trouble with 2 things:

1) Getting speakers to cast balanced sound image over prime listening position (probably a matter of tweeking positioning of speakers)

2) Are these speakers capable of pushing out a decent bass without a subwoofer? This gives the oomph in home theatre systems in my opinion.

Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Club Polk Elorien!

I have the TL3's and while the bass is quite good for such a small speaker, it really helps to have a sub to get the full notes of bass.

If you are using them in a HT, then you really should get a sub. Look at the Polk DSW line. I have a DSW 400 which is just terrific for both music & movies.

Agreed, you definitely need a sub with those. They're not really designed to operate a HTheater without a sub.

Get out your MANUAL, read about the Auto set-up for Audyssey and run it if you haven't. You'll need to plug in the microphone before doing this. The only other way to balance a system is with an SPL meter (if you have one).
