well thats what i was thinking also. i will try all the buttons and adjustments. it appears all lights work from what i can see in picture. i talked to my friend tonight about it. but where he doesnt know much about unit also. i thought id ask if there were other little things i could do before i do buy it. sometimes i would think that there may be issues that are known on certain products that usually you can look for right off the bat. kinda stuff....any feedback is welcome. thanx...i wasnt in the market for buying. but at 100.00 for a pioneer sx1010 it may be worth looking at....i will check back later here. and if i decide in mid morning to pick this up i will comment. if youall have feedback please do. thanx

well i can see why there wasnt many responces. the reciever turnt out to be a 100.00 junk. the good thing here is it was a friend that said try it. so i did. after it was on for a few minutes the right channel kept going in n out. i personally didnt want to be bothered by this. i guess ill stick with newer models as i dont know what it is im doing. sorry to have been a disappointment on this reciever. thought id hit the jackpot. thanks all.....oh. one more thing. my friend did apoligize. hes a cool guy too

deoxit the controls and switches before giving up...you could be in for a suprise...radio shack has it if you can't wait..or just order it online...they built them like tanks...35 years of dust and grime will make performance suffer...so give the deoxit a try and let us know

i will try. i like it. the right channel worked. then i brought it home. hooked ir to rta15TL's to hear the reciever. all of a sudden no right channel .....i have some radio shack cleaner and lubricant...control contact. is that the same as deoxit....do i spray it where the balance control button goes in. or do i take top off....i do have some can air also on hand.........thanx

i hooked it back up. left channel is working perfect. but right is out. i turn balance knob and it crackles a little. i sprayed a little bit of contact cleaner in knob area after i removed knob. i will try to work it through. maybe movement will trig something loose........trying. i do like this reciever. its sound is very nice. minus the issues. lol

That's a beautiful receiver, well worth restoring. It has one of the "warmest" and most musical sounds of the Pioneer classics.

Like Mike said...deoxit, work the controls dozens of time. Let it dry out and test. Hit everything, all controls. And if you can check the fuses. And if after all that you still don't have the other channel. I have a guy in Augusta who does all my work and can probably fix it for you without taking you to the cleaners. Though, I warn you, Pete is very very slow because of the backlog so if you give it to him don't expect it back for a while.

    Take care..

You need to open the unit up and hit the pots from within. There is usually a little opening there that you spray into. Do a youtube search on deoxit use. There are some great videos that show you "exactly" what you need to do!

    I love this story!

In just three hours this classic Pioneer went from a piece of non working junk to a fabulous sounding receiver and a very happy Polkster. Good luck on your classic Pioneer. Get some pictures up for us Boston!

    Congrats again!

UPDATE....i think i will be putting this in for service soon.....i noticed i hooked cd player to aux in. i listened to cd's no problem. then i switch over to fm and i loose my right channel speaker. i think its best that i service this thing by someone who knows to do it correctly. i noticed all bulbs work. but one is dimmer. so that can be addressed at that time too....i listened to it for 2 hours on cd it worked perfect. then i switched over n boink!!!!!!!!!! lol.... im thinking it needs a nice cleaning..... i can understand why people like the older model now. to think i could of had tons of these in the 70's...thanks all. cnh i will be calling him also thanx

Hey Boston, Pull those 2b's off the wall about a 8 inches and tell me how it sounds? They like a touch of breathing room. Only the big boys like to be against the wall. This is from personal experience.

That is a nice Pioneer you got there. The Rta's look real nice too.

Love a good story with a good ending. Nice work, Boston.

In the future, perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to hook up some SoundDesign/Magnavox/El Cheapo speakers instead of RTA's while testing electronics out. Just in case a vintage receiver decides it wants to turn into an arc welder.
