No problem. Keep in mind you won't be able to use the Touch's included remote without line of sight--it's a standard IR remote. You'll have to use some other method for controlling the Squeezebox, like a Squeezebox Duet controller, or a smartphone/tablet app, or a PC. So it can be done, but not with just the stuff that's included in the box.

Have you used it outside of trying to integrate iTunes?

Nice how you bash a product when it's iTunes that's the issue, not the Squeezebox. Guess you should have spent twice as much for a Sonos which is marketed directly at and specifically for Apple integration.

I will be able to move it around so that is not a problem. I heard somewhere that the squeezebox could only handle about 10,000 files. I have a bit more than that.

Sonos had a file limit when I bought a few years ago. I believe it is/was 10,000. Not sure if this is still true.

I finally broke down and decided to start ripping my CDs and bought a SB Touch. Received it on Monday and had it up and running Monday evening. It had a short learning curve, but within an hour I had the server software and the Touch working. I am using dbPoweramp to rip the CDs and set up the FLAC files (nice program!). Before the night was over I was able to control the Touch by not only it's remote and screen, but 1) my Logitech 1100 remote, 2) my Android phone, and 3) my IPad. The audio out is what I am using with nice results, but an External DAC is in my near future for improved sonics. In one session I ripped about 25 CDs with the average time about 5 minutes each so this will actually be easier than I was expecting. It is a shame that Logitech has discontinued this device and I am tempted to acquire a second one before they are all sold.

Get 'em while you still can. I have two Touches, one Classic, two Radios, and a Boom.

I think that the limit is if you hook a usb harddrive directly to the Touch and are using the internal server rather than a version of the server running on your computer.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that tonight. I'm trying to set up a cloud server at home to feed the Sonos system at the beach and it's approaching 2 TB, so I don't want to have to copy/update a second drive.

I will say that Sonos continues to improve on established products and develop new ones with apparent desire to remain in this market niche. Stuff like the sub and Amazon Cloud streaming, which, in the future, may turn out to be significant if they can get beyond the 192ish level.

As far as usuability, I did prefer the Sonos over the Squeezebox. I only ended up keeping the Squeezebox, because of the built-in screen on the Touch meant that I did not have to buy a separate controller or set-up a wireless network just to use my iPhone to control it. I was also interested in the ability to just be able to hook the Touch up to a harddrive and not to have to have a computer in the set-up. Outside of those issue, I would have happily kept one of the Sonos units and not bothered with the Squeezebox. I had a Squeezebox Duet in the past and that thing was maddening. I had figured out all of the issues with it before I sold it but was still happy to get rid of it.

You no longer have to buy the controller from Sonos, don't even think they offer them anymore. A free app for your phone is available to take it's place. There are ways to get around the 10-15000 song limit and 192 rez, that market is somewhat shallow. Most do 24/96, and even prefer the SQ over 192, but to each his own on that subject.

Either one will give you countless options, freedom from those cd cases laying around, and open your world to new music. Go for it.

Well I'm glad you decided to sell

I like both systems. I don't like the SB computer app at all. For SB, I like the SB iPad app and iPeng for phone. For Sonos, I like the stock computer and phone apps. There's a little more flexibility with the Touch outputs and, although I never did a direct A-B comparison, I give a slight edge in sound quality to the Touch.

FWIW, the logitech media server is DLNA compliant -- I can listen to the music via Sony TV downstairs..(the duet is upstairs)..the files are on a garden-variety laptop..

I do not have a Touch, but a Duet (discontinued)

For folks you have Touch you might want to try some of the modification made to software setting by SoundCheck. In my setup (Zu Omen Def Mk.1B, Response Audio 3205 Extreme Tube Amp, Touch connected via wired connection) it help settle the sound down a bit. There was another therad on Logitech's forum about some other setting changes which also made some further improvements to the sound. Will find the thread and post the link. It is a long thread but good useful information.

Sounds tempting... as if I don't have enough trouble already.

Has anyone else here tried it?

As promised the other modification that I mentioned earlier - Dynobot (https://sites.google.com/site/computeraudioorg/squeezebox-touch-tweaks). Associated discussion thread - http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?89359-New-Squeezebox-Touch-Mod

I have not tried the Dynobot changes yet. Plan to have my system settle down for few more weeks before I try that mode.
