I picked up this cd. I have been a fan of hers for a while and I just cannot get into this cd. The recording of it is not good at all either. The sound quality is not good also. Has anyone else picked this one up?

I thought the same thing..it's like she was going for an 'old-timey' pop and scratch record sound, but it really just sounds like noise and static..

I wonder if the SACD release next month will be better quality noise and static?

I have it. Don't like it as well as her older stuff. She wrote almost every song on the new album and it's just not as soulful as the earlier recordings. SQ is ok but can't get it to image like before.

By no means am I a Norah hardcore, but I actually thought this was more soulful than at least some of her previous work. I like it.

Interesting. I'll have to go check this out. Her stuff has been great , first CD was the best and down hill from there. I still enjoyed her last 2 CD's but we shall see about this one.

    Thanks for the heads up.

I agree, I'm glad I picked up JW's new CD. Norah's will be next time I purchase something through Amazon.

Agree or disagree, here is my food for thought.

I am going to relate Norah to Pearl Jam (one of my faves). I can hear the  and see the  already.

Pearl Jam's first two albums were huge. After that they came out with albums in a slightly different direction and people were like wtf is Pearl Jam doing. Looking back, those third, fourth etc. albums were actually just as good in their own way, and pearl jam fans now appreciate them just as much.

I think this is the same with Norah. Her first couple albums were so huge that the expectations are almost unreachably high for any new one she comes out with. My guess would be in five years, this album will be right in line with the rest of her amazing work.

    IMHO of course...

The wife enjoys it, me not so much maybe it's because of the backing band. Her first 3 are great this one not so much. Glad the wife spent her coin on it.

    Fair statement...

Everyone has their own flavor. I guess maybe if you really like a band, you find reasons to like whatever they put out regardless of what others say. I find myself doing this with some artists and not others.

That said...Pearl Jam bootlegs their own live shows. Really excellent quality. If you want to, PM me your addy and I will send you a few disks. I have enough of them:cheesygrin:

Wow, at least I'm not the only one disappointed with this album :( Finally got a chance to unpack and listen to it, got special 2-disc edition. just can't get into listening to this album. Not her "usual" style, and I'm not sure it's a good thing. Also, the album sounds very bright, even with my Rotel/B&W combo. I'll try it with Maggies and tubes to soften it up, but still, it's not the same as her other albums :(
