PSW10 Subwoofer Doesn't Turn ON

Simply put my woofer will not turn on. I have tried 5 different power sources that have been confirmed to be
working by other devices. Last time it was working I had it set up in a garage. I was concerned because I had the the power going into a strobe light pulse controller where it did not belong. Did not think it would blow it up though.
The woofer sounded great until it refused to turn on again. The unit is far out of warranty.e
I have not opened it up yet.
Any suggestions on what to do next would be appreciated.

    Hello,
Probably a good idea would be to unplug the AC power cord and take out the screws that go around the circumference of the bass amplifier's input plate. Then use a putty knife to loosen the plate and pull it out from the cabinet. Look where the AC power cord goes through the metal plate for the AC fuse.

Thanks. I'll try that. So I should be checking the fuse to see if it is blown?

Here is a picture of the fuse. Seems to be fine. What else can I check?

    Hello,
I'm afraid that is a fairly severe blown fuse. In all likelihood the bass amplifier has some problems and would need to be repaired. Go ahead and unplug the two connections to the woofer and send the complete amplifier assembly to: Polk Audio Factory Service, 1 Viper Way, Vista, CA. 92081-7853. Please include a short note giving them your name, address and daytime telephone number. If you've owned the sub for less than three years include a copy of your sales receipt. Polk's service guys will be able to help out.
    Regards, Ken

Any idea how much service like this would cost? I got a great deal on the woofer and only paid $100 for it. If the repair is more than 30 or 40 it may not even be worth it, ya know?

Just to confirm the wire within the glass of the fuse is still intact. No breaks in it.
Is it the burning on the outside that the fuse is severely blown?
I'm rather new to home audio.

    Hello,
The wire may look intact, but electrically it's not. If you have a Volt-Ohm meter you can check the continuity by setting the meter to read resistance and put one probe on each metal cap on the two ends. In all likelihood the meter will show infinite resistance. If I remember correctly a repair is around $60.00/$70.00, if you contact Polk's CS department at 1-800-377-7655 or polkcs@polkaudio.com they can give you the exact amount.
    Regards, Ken
