Sprint Phone

My phone is on its last legs... does anyone have a Sprint phone that is still functional and has acceptable battery life they'd like to sell? I have an older 3rd party plan with unlimited data etc that won't work with the newest line of smart phones as they require a newer (read more expensive) data package and if I sign a contract for a free phone I can't keep my existing plan. Currently using a Samsung Restore but open to just about anything.

I have one of these in its original box if you want it:

Put it up on eBay to see if anyone wanted it a while back and no one bid even a dollar. So if you want it, it's yours for free. Not nearly as nice as your Restore, however. It was new in 2004, so...

Thanks for the offer Syndil, that one might work... my only concern is I won't be able to use my bluetooth with it which would take some getting used to. let me see what else I come up with and I will let you know. Thanks

Yeah this phone is kind of a dinosaur. It's the first phone with a video camera Sprint offered.

Always a few bargains to be had on Fleabay if you want to go that route. Here's a search for Sprint phones, without contracts, new or refurbished, under $50:

Hmm. I might have a first generation Motorola Droid that might fit the bill for you.

It was a Verizon phone, but those can be unlocked to work on Sprint, right? Let me know if you know anything about this. I've only ever unlocked a T-Mobile phone before, which was simplicity itself after a call to T-Mobile (very handy for swapping GSM SIM cards in Europe so that you can add a local one and benefit from lower local call charges the whole time).

I'll check the battery life, but I'm pretty sure it's still decent for a smartphone (most of them don't last more than a day or two per charge, with the large screen and all that stuff goin' on). Remember the ol' days when your phone battery might last a whole week with moderate usage?!
    Alea jacta est!

    @ Chargerman - you have a PM

@ Lazareth - i'm located in the middle of IA - sprint reception is okay here as long as you don't leave the main HWY's and cities. I would probably go with Verizon but I have a $15 a month plan with spring from years ago i'm trying to hang onto. Tons of minutes, unlimited texts, data, etc... By the way, thanks for the 128GB hard drive, it's been running flawlessly for a couple of weeks now.

No. GSM works via the SIM card, but CDMA works via the ESN built in to the phone. It doesn't really matter what you do to reprogram or flash the phone; you can't change its ESN. Well, some people can, but it's illegal. The CDMA carriers know which ESNs belong to phones that were made for their networks and will not activate ESNs that were not intended for their network.

In other words it's not the phone that needs unlocking, it's the carrier. And that's just not going to happen.
