I just got a bdp 53 player and the remote or any of my other remotes only seem to work from about four feet away from it. Is this a common problem with these? and is there anything I can do to cure this? The manual says the remote should work from 7 meters. thanks

I suggest returning the player and getting something else. I had it and it lasted a weekend. I have seen now 3 of them go down so I stopped using them.
For the money I suggest Denon , Marantz , Cambridge audio and Oppo as your replacement.
As for the remote , it sounds like you have weak batteries , this is not a common problem with this player or the remote.
Check out my thread on this player

Well I sent the Pioneer back. The main reson I wanted the pioneer is to go with my SC-55 receiver, but if they are that problematic I will just get something else. I am looking at the OPPO 93 what is the deal with the region free upgrade? What does it do and do I even need it?

region free means it will play discs from other countries. It really means nothing unless lets say you lived in Russia and moved here and had a Blu ray or DVD collection you would like to watch here.Dan

Well, or if you have an extensive collection of import dvds. I took a Danish class and got into Danish existentialist films, many of which were never distributed in the states. But you can order them relatively cheap and play them on a region free player. I only own a couple, so this has never matter to me, but if you're really into Anime or something it might be necessary for you.Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es
