RT55i Finish Problem
I'm putting together an office/girlfriend system. I had the chance to buy back some RT55i's from a buddy.
I'd like to figure out some way to repair the vinyl finish on the one speaker, if possible, without having a huge fuss of shipping it back to Polk or some other more expensive option.
Any ideas? The pics are below.
Thanks,
Wes

Just an idea. Take off the vinyl. Get some crown molding and glue it on like a picture frame.

Ah yes! The infamous heat damage! This happens when these are exposed to direct sunlight, or possibly other heat sources. It would certainly be a problem near a window in AZ or CA, as well as many other parts of the country, I suspect.
I'm not sure what the best solution is, but maybe stripping it off completely and attempting to spray paint what I think is MDF in black? The wood trim with the grain is far more robust that the vinyl surround shown in your photos.
Otherwise, the RT55 and RT55i are well worth saving, in my opinion: they are a great HT speaker, and very good for music as well. Excellent bass output!Alea jacta est! -
Stripping and painting might be the best option. You'll want to put several coats of primer on it though.
