What other hobbies do you have?

I know there was a thread like this a while back, just curious as to what others do for fun/leisure.

I love tinkering with electronic stuff and building computers.

I have a .22 savage MKII rifle that I like to target shoot, and plink with.

Another thing I like to do is tinker with the kids power wheels. I think I might be making one of them 4 wheel drive this summer, if I can scavenge the right parts from curb sides.

I also LOVE radio controlled cars/trucks. I have 2 traxxas rustlers that the boys and I like to play with, and mu two boys together have 8 "toy" R/Cs. The Rustler the boys run is nearly stock, with an upgraded speed control and brushed motor. The one I bash has a few upgraded parts(as they break), and has a Castle Creations SV2 speed control and 4 pole 5700KV motor (5700 rpms/volt no load). This truck is just silly. Depending on gearing I range from about 20-50 REAL mph. With the right batteries and gearing I should be able to top 70. You might think I'm just blowing smoke, but with the right setup you can reach over 100 mph with these things. Just youtube fastest rustler.

So what else are you into?

Cool cool. Forgot to mention, I am getting our boys into building models also. I had slot cars and built models when I was younger. All my hot wheels disappeared when my mom passed away. My boys have wayyyyy to many hot wheels lol.

Lots of fantasy football, I've got a couple guitars which I pick up occasionally, I dabble in electronics....I built a 4W tube guitar amp from kit and also an effects pedal, have modded/recapped a couple stereo tuners and have done some minor repairs to my own stuff, we do all of our own gardening and landscaping which is very seasonal around here and have 2 chihuahuas that take up lots of time. I've put together a pretty decent gym with treadmill, heavy bag, olympic and standard weight sets and various benches that I use a few times a week. I've got a couple bird feeders and like to watch and photograph the different birds.

Ya know it's kinda funny how your hobbies change over the years and for me the only one that has made the test of time has been audio. My younger years was consumed with audio, biking, building models of planes or boats, vintage cars, sports of all kinds, and probably a few more that escape me at the moment.

Now, it's audio, cooking, gardening, wine, and something I never had an interest in when I was younger....politics. One thing I wish I should have turned into a hobby as a youth was making money.....I'd be a frickin' Donald Trump by now.

Lately my hobby has been my house it has been in need of a paint job for the last few years, put in a new front door, storm door, new light fixtures, painted the deck, new gutters, having a new roof put on next week.

Yeah I know it's not much of a hobby so to speak but it has been fun watching it all take on a new look..

Out side of that it has been my Camaro. my rigs have been sleeping for a few weeks now it seems..

I've been tinkering with computers since my summer job at NASA back when I was 13 ... so that's where all the $$ went prior to audio. Otherwise, video games, basketball, attempting to learn to play the guitar (and then giving up when I get to finger picking and then the guitar just sits there for 3 months), movies, etc.

I like to read spy novels - Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, James Rollins, Ted Bell, Brad Taylor, Marc Cameron are authors in that vein.

Of course there is audio ..but i'm taking a break from major purchases - especially after this coming weekend. More than likely, will be ordering a 2012 BMW 328i Sport Line (6mt) and perhaps doing the European delivery. It'll give me a chance to take a vacation (which I haven't done in the last 5 years).

I went indoor sky-diving recently ... it was fun! I've done paintballing & go-karting as well. Anything that seems fun, I'm usually up for :)
ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place :(

I used to play the guitar and and some woodwind instruments, now my daughter is playing most of my guitars and I have less time to.I also enjoy literature and writing (including fiction--an area outside my scope as an academic). My best friend is an Indie filmmaker, so I occasionally consult on scripts he writes (which is fun). I like collecting examples of "eccentric" personalities and behavior as inspiration for stories; and observing the farce called American Politics because there are a lot of absurdities one can mine from there, as well.

I've had an interest in Japanese and Chinese Philosophy since I was a Junior in H.S. Politics--well you can't get away from that. I am a bit of a News Junkie--spend more time than I should reading and watching cable news--we even have a small 15" LCD near the kitchen table so we can get our news fix when we eat. lol

I've enjoyed weightlifting, on and off since I was a H.S. student. I've always preferred activities where I can compete against myself rather than others; like weightlifting, boxing (because although you do compete against ONE other--you can only depend on yourself to succeed). Of sports: I find baseball slow and boring, basketball over-hyped and occasionally interesting; I guess football is really the only sport that I might follow regularly. Come from a region in Pa. where that was the "sport" and where we fielded a number of undefeated teams in H.S. class A, so "everyone" was into football, or at least played a year or two.

My favorite hobby, though, is "conversation". There is nothing like a good discussion over a few beers or distilled spirits with good friends. Shooting the Sxxt is a dying past-time, probably why this place attracts so many of us, besides our common interests in audio.

I love the ocean, many found memories of summer vacations--where, the Jersey shore (yeah I can hear some groans in the background, but it wasn't always what it has become today--used to be a very "family" friendly place.

There is NOTHING as calming as watching the waves pound the shoreline. Bet it lowers one's BP by 20+ points!

I like to travel, as does my wife. We've been to Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, England, Germany, Greece, China, Japan, Mexico, and all over Canada and the U.S. Much of that travel has been facilitated by scholarly conferences, papers, etc.

I also like to bike (the motor-less kind), I used to jog but the knees and back are speaking to me as I age!

Love the outdoors, sun and sky. I'd like to learn to be able to prepare more dishes as I seem to have a knack for producing a fairly edible cuisine but I have a limited repertoire. It goes without saying that growing up in a Mediterranean household (my parents were immigrants), I developed a LOVE for good food. And my mother was an excellent cook!

Like my father, I appreciate the finer cognacs and brandies. Starting with my ancestor's finest spirit: Metaxa: Private Reserve.

This is getting too long. It's been a rough semester and you're all making me remember all the things I haven't been able to do for months!
