I stopped by Best Buy yesterday to pick up a new hard drive and browsed around looking at the TVs. Saw the Pioneer Elite Line (now made by Sharp) and have to say that they are by far the finest LCD TVs out there. None of the others held a candle to them including the top of the line Sony Bravias.

The 60" was $4,800 and the 70" was $7,000. Unbelievable contrast and blacks. I was drooling.

I think they look even better than the Pioneer Elite Kuro plasmas do.

Needless to say, one of those bad boys is on my wish list.

Maybe when I get me income tax return.................

Anyone on the forum have one of these babies?

    They are pricey...

I had the opportunity to get a proper demo in a audio store with a theater setup (Pioneer SC-57, Cambridge Blu-Ray, Monitor Audio) with the 60" model. Turn the lights off and I watched a scene from an animated movie. Gorgeous picture. Makes my Quattron look terrible. It does get black. That's what impressed me the most.

Yeah I couldn't believe how awesome the picture was. They were showing one of the Pirates of the Carribean movies on it and it was stunning. Even close up.

They had a projector setup in the back and while they are nice, the Elite TV was so much brighter and vivid (although obviously smaller).

I'm sold on the Elite. All that's stopping me is the $.

    lol

We have the 70 on the floor . I have not calibrated it yet but it's by far the best set on the market today. I don't think it's better then my Pioneer Elite Kuro 60. Without having it in the same room , I still favor the Plasma over the LED. I'd like to bring one home and do a vs battle which would be fun as I don't do hardly any shootout's with video.

As good as it is , I don't lust after it at all. I also don't lust after any tv today.

I think it's the best of both worlds. I'd definitely take it over my Kuro.

I'm sure it's a gorgeous picture but the price is just insane. Dan, on a side note, do videophiles have the same issues with A/B testing as audiophiles do. Seems like the audio guys have 1,001 reasons why they can dismiss the A/B test. Just curious about the video guys. Maybe the eyes are better adapted at seeing a difference on the spot as opposed to our ears not being so good on the spot. You mentioned having a shootout at your house which sounds like a fun time. Report back if you do the shootout.

There are several reviews where they compare the Elite LCD to the Kuro plasma and there is no clear overall winner.

    From most of the articles:
    • The Sharp Elite LCD looks as good or better then the Kuro at straight-on viewing
    • The Kuro is better at off-angle viewing
    • The Elite LCD has a sharper picture than the Kuro
    • The LCD has a glossier screen than the Kuro that can produce more glare in certain direct sunlight situations
    • The blacks are a tad darker on the LCD
    • Some of the colors are a tad better on the plasma
    • The LCD is 3D capable and the Kuro isn't
    • The LCD uses less energy than the plasma

Just like audio, video comparisons are somewhat subjective too according to an individual's personal taste and some of the reviewer's like the Kuro better and some like the Elite LCD better but all who evaluated them said that they are both awesome and the best ever made of their kind.

Personally, I'd rather have the Elite LCD. The picture just looks brighter and sharper to me. Totally blows my father's new 240 hz Bravia away and I've yet to see anything better to my eyes.

I wouldn't have an lcd. I hate the cartoon motion they make.

Samsung's do this a lot but the Sharp Elite does not. It has a more plasma look then any LED TV I have ever seen. It has a more real look which is what I look for in a display.
I honestly don't think it's better then the Kuro models. Without a side by side I can't say that for sure but I own a Kuro and have a Elite 70 inch on our floor and I study it from time to time and as good as it is , I'm not willing to buy one to get the extra 10 inches which would be extremely cool.
Plasma model TV's don't have the fake Cartoon look to them as most LCD LED's do , shame as I think they are over processed to compensate for the motion issues LCD/LED's have. Off viewing angle I feel there is little to nothing left to do to try and fix that. I think it's time for new technology

For 7K you can get a really nice projector and screen that does 120" in HD

As it were, my Hitachi 57XWX20B RPTV 1080i died about two weeks ago, so I began the process of finding its successor. The price limit was somewhere in the neighborhood of $2k, but willing to spend a little more if I could get much more. I weighted statistics, life-style, family opinion, aesthetics, picture quality, and pretty much everything together and came to a decision.

It was down to the 60" Samsung LED 7000 series or the Panasonic Plasma P65ST50.

The Panasonic Plasma won for our family's needs and I bought last week. But I fully feel that Plasma's days are numbered. It just happened that it was the best value for our needs.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?
