so i posted my Epik Castle FS/FT and i had an offer for dual MFW15s for my Castle.

i would love to keep the castle but i think dual smaller subs will work best will my new house.

how would the dual MFW15s compare to my Castle? is this a good/fair trade? THANKS!!!

The MFWs had a LOT of quality problems, mostly with the amps. Many failed within months, depending on what production run they were from. The company (the now defunct AV123) went into a death spiral, with the failure of that product and others, some of which never made it to market, despite them taking pre-orders and deposits. Then there was the charity fraud, for which the owner went to jail... All that said, if they're still functioning today, they're probably decent subs from a production run that wasn't affected. Mine has been great. I only wish I could have gotten my money out of it years ago. It makes me sick to know what that company put some people through. It was a sad, ugly story.

i read up on the equipment issues last night but did not come across the other ones. the guy im looking at trading with says he bought them new in 2009 (version #2) and has had no issues with them. also has spare new amps that he has never had to open/use.

I had a version 2 MFW 15 and it worked flawlessly. I thnk that was the amp version that had the most reliability. I sold it to a friend before I got my legends and it is still kicking strong today. I know you are asking for 900 for you Castle. Honestly He would have to bring some cash to the table for that trade as you can find pairs of these for 600-700 all the time.

I'd keep searching for another Castle, from your posts here and on your FS thread, I don't think you'll be happy unless you go much bigger and badder, which always equals $$$$!

IIRC, there was a guy selling two, yes 2 Conquests somewhere ion the west coast... I actually saw the ad in the Emo forums through AVSforums...

I'd shoot for Conquests if you can find them.

Be the last sub purchase anyone needs to make IMO. Is it still for sale? What stopped you?

Edit: I'm an idiot today. I already knew you wanted smaller footprint. Thought about a pair of Legends? I always had my eye on them but Epik doesn't ship to Canada.

I did a DIY project with 2 12" TC sounds driver. Had ED subwoofers build the boxes. Well worth the price.

You don't have to go that extreme. The cabinets were $500 shipped with grills total.

There is a guy selling some LMS-R 12" for 240 shipped on AVSFORUM. He had 3 last I heard. Buy 2 of them, build your own speaker boxes, get a decent amp for em and bam your set.......

The only way I can think of to get the bass you want and decrease floor space is to do it right and go infintie baffle, if you are able. If you have an attic or crawlspace adjacent to the room, you should start looking into it.

Dont think you will be happy with the 505 personally given your tastes. My personal suggestion is to go with one of the Chase Home Theater passive 18" subs and then use a amp of some sort bridged. I believe that will probably give you enough bass for what you want (I plan on getting 2 of them when we get a house)....

Then I would look at something like the Sunfire subs. They are super small and will put out some good bass. A bit more than the DSW's I believe. Otherwise look at the Def Tech SuperCubes......

Yup, I would look used for sure.

As an aside some of the Sunfire sub's work with a wireless adaptor so you can move them around. They also have a built in EQ similar to what the Polk DSW's do but I believe it works much better based on reading the manuals.

Mole' check out Ed Mullen's review of the psw505 here: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_12_2/polk-psw-505-subwoofer-4-2005.html

he states that the use of a parametric slightly improved the in-room extension and greatly improved the linearity of the frequency response. If you're running two that might be a good idea.

its pretty good. i may stick with this setup.

no where near the castle tho. i think it would take 8 of the 505 subs to come close to that

I've tried a bunch of different adapters over the years, and to be honest they all sounded the same to me. lol

So question for ya bro? Is having the smaller footprint more important than having some massive bass?

    thanks on the splitter ?

yes on the smaller footprint for now. i have some added bass from my LSi speakers too. still playing with the subs placement tho.
entertainment center in the middle, then the subs and the LSi's on the outside sounds best so far

i would have liked to of done that trade for the MFW-15s but it did not go down. they are not much bigger then the 505
