i dont know muck about HT systems (just got into it) but it seems my receiver is a bit too weak for my speakers.
so does anybody on here have any sugestions on what receiver i should get? (preferebly under the 1k mark) i've been trying to go thru a few receiver reviews, but its so hard to choose one when you have no idea whats really good or not. And i've been hearing a lot latelly about amps, is that something i need for my system? any help is appreciated.
this is the setup i have now
receiver: yamaha rx-v367

front: polk monitor60
center: polk CS10
rear: polk TSI100
subwoofer: polk PSW110
i plan on the real near future to move the monitor60's to the rear and getting the TSI500 for the fronts so keep that in mind....
thanks in advance

Right now,,,,if you are looking to upgrade later....I say a nice avr with PRE-OUTS. Add an amp an it takes it up another notch. I was there once....fell into seperates. and never looked back

Yeah, just make sure the amp has preouts. Some of the cheapest receivers with preouts: Yamaha RX-A810, Denon 3312, Pioneer Elite VX-52, Marantz SR5006. These are all under $1K and have reasonably hefty power supplies, mC ost of them will even drive 4 ohm speakers (in the front, as long as you don't go crazy and try to drive 5 4-ohm speakers at once). I just got the Yamaha RX-A1010 and paired it with an NAD C 326BEE amp (their mid-range integrated amp), it sounds incredibly great with my LSi9's. However for the speakers you listed there, which are all 8ohm speakers, you should be fine with just a high current receiver. If you upgrade later to 4-ohm speakers like the LSi series, you will want the preouts so you can add amps later.

Thanks for the imput guys.... Im definetelly going to look for a receiver with pre outs.... And since i posted that first post i was still doing my research and found The onkyo tx-nr809 7.2 do you guys have any imput on this receiver? Fount it for 699 plus free shipping, seems to be a good receiver...
Syntheticzero, i will look into the receivers you sugested, and i was thinking about the yamaha rx-a1010 but then found the onkyo tx-nr809 for such a good price... Do you think the yamaha will be a lot better?? Thanks
Ibewbrother, thanks, i really am starting to like polk and as far as upgrading its true its hard to stop, i first bought the polk tsi100 and the polk cs10 and had some cheap towers a friend donated to me... And just last week i got a pair of the monitor 60's and just ordered another pair ofthe 70's today since i liked the 60's so much... I guess i just need to upgrade my receiver and see what they can really do...receiver: yamaha RX-A1010BL 7.2

Finally pull the trigger... Ended up getting the yamaha rx-a1010, got it on newegg for $999 with a $300 gift card, so not bad.... One of the reasons i decided to get this receiver over the onkyo tx-nr809 is because i already got an yamaha receiver so i think i'll be more familiar with the menus and stuff plus the onkyo seems to be having issues with quality, lots of people getting them defected or having them fail in short amounts of time... So there you go thanks for all the repplyes!!!!!receiver: yamaha RX-A1010BL 7.2

Pioneer Elite vsx52 is all you will ever need for your system now and your future plans. No amps needed not for those speakers.Dan

Hi filoco, sorry I didn't see your message until just now. I had an Onkyo TX-NR806 and the HDMI board started to burn out (which is why I ended up getting the Yamaha RX-A1010), and I've heard Onkyo really hasn't fixed the problem with their HDMI boards burning out. It's just really annoying quality control problems.
The RX-A1010 has one nice feature the Pioneer Elite VSX-52 lacks: two HDMI outs. Since I have a projector and a TV, and I sometimes like to switch between them, I'm glad the RX-A1010 has that extra HDMI out.
The Pioneer Elites have a fairly convenient feature called "AirPlay" that lets you push music from iOS music devices directly to the receiver. However, for sound quality this isn't going to be great as it will just use whatever DAC is built into the Pioneer Elite, which is bound to be less good than an external DAC which is really what you ought to use to play music.
I actually don't have an external DAC but I do have a Logitech Squeezebox which puts out a surprisingly high quality signal. It doesn't support pushing music directly from an iPod but it does support playing music from your iTunes library (via a web interface, not iTunes, but oh well). The sound quality is quite good. -
Thanks for the look-out syntheticzero, but yeah i was really interested in gettig the onkyo, but then started reading the reviews on it, and lots of people has issues with it, that scared me a little, then found the yamaha rx-a1010 and so far no issues, cant really compared them with the pioneer elite's cause i never heard them, but definetelly an upgrade on my last receiver, and so far loving the new receiver, and in my opinion it was such a good price that i couldnt pass up... Verry happy with the new receiver... This thing rocks!!receiver: yamaha RX-A1010BL 7.2
