Is there anything that can be used under a pair of tower speakers to lessen the bass thump through the ceiling below

    - Sound proof insulation in the ceiling below your speakers.
    - Spike speakers.
    - Isolation foam platform of some kind.

I have an Auralex SubDude under my sub and it made a very noticeable difference. At the time it was thick carpet over hardwood with a basement below. I have removed all the carpet and left it sitting on the SubDude.

$50-$60 or so on Amazon. If you have a really big sub, you'll want to look at an Auralex Gramma or Great Gramma.

    Why?

To keep from bothering your neighbors? Not much will help that beyond sound deadening material in the floor/ceiling and even that won't completely stop a low frequency signal

To keep something from vibrating or rattling on the floor below say a two story house, then perhaps a foam base or spikes, etc.

To keep from bothering people in neighboring apartments, there really is nothing beyond turning the bass down or using a speaker that doesn't reproduce low bass, like a small bookie.

    +1.

Bass is non-directional. The only device I've seen that claims to make directional bass is this: http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=2_119&products_id=607

Not many options with an apt. You can try putting a big piece of tile under each speaker (I'm assuming the floor is carpeted). More realistically is to move to a bottom apt. or rent a townhouse or house.

Try some plain old hockey pucks under the speaks. They work as well as a high dollar iso piece. I have them under my Spires and barely hear it when I'm in the basement.
