Building a Polk Home Theater for the folks, need advice!

Hello all, I need advice/opinions. I have a Harman Kardon avr 247 7.1 that I won't need soon... and I happen to have a set of Polk Monitor 70s and a Csi1 Center Channel, I figured I might be nice and build a surround sound for my parents, being that they NEVER buy anything for themselves. if I picked up a pair of monitor 50s for sides, and maybe monitor 40s for rears, and a psw505 for sub, would this receiver be able to power all of this safely?? ANY advice is greatly appreciated! and is the Csi1 an alright speaker to match with the Monitor 70s for matching timbre as a center? Worst case, I could always do Monitor 40s for sides, but prefer a tower for sides considering their livingroom.

YOU, are a very nice son!!
Don't know how efficient that 247 would be to push all those speakers with only 65w 2ch driven. And, that AVR doesn't decode HD-Master Audio or put out 1080p, highest res is 1080i. I don't know how important that is to you or your folks.
Worst case scenario, hook it all up and you have an upgrade over the TV speakers. Who knows, maybe it won't sound half bad.
You could always go a little more powerful with the AVR, sounds like a great speaker set up.Source: BRP Panasonic UB9000, CDP Emotiva ERC3 - Display: LG OLED EVO 83 C3 - Pre/Pro: Marantz 8802A - Amplification: Emotiva XPA-DR3, XPA-2 x 2, XPA-6, Speakers, Mains/2ch-Focal Kanta No2's, C-LSiM706, S-702F/X, RS-RTiA9's, WS-RTiA9's, FH-RTiA3's, Subs - Epik Empire x 2

EXPERIENCE: next to nothing, but I sure enjoy audio and video MY OPINION OF THIS HOBBY: I may not be a smart man, but I know what quicksand is.
When I was young, I was Superman but now that old age has gotten the best of me I'm only Batman -
When I first got my 70s 40s and cs2 I was using a low end Yamaha. It did the job but I was afraid to push it to much,so I upgraded.I had the cs1 first but upgraded that too,for a few more dollars you can go with the cs2 it does sound better in my opinion.

My parents are like that too. Some things they will never have if I don't buy them for them.
I end up using them as an excuse to buy me some new stuff, and I give them my old : ) Perhaps that's just me.
That receiver will surely drive all those speakers at all listening levels that they will use. I hear HR receivers are up to spec, so you can actually rely on those 65W, unlike my receiver that says 110 but in reality is more like 65.
Do u think they would prefer the 7.1 vs 5.1? I know my mom would prefer a 2.0 : ) Perhaps no need to buy rears..
Not trying to save u money, just some people don't like the clutter. And no need to buy more powerful receiver if your parents never turn the volume up. And while I am at it, your center is probably fine too, because your parents might not be able to even pick up the difference. I know it sounds bad know, but really, even if you give them the system as is, it will be a GREAT gift and significant difference with the TV speakers..I have found that tube based computers provide the best sound quality. ENIAC and MANIAC I offer a smooth, well defined and articulated sound unmatched by the current silicon based CPUs.jeremymarcinko wrote: »But as in all things your perception is your reality. -
Well, I have a spare set of Rti70's, and found a pair of Rti4's and a Csi3 center I could purchase to complete an Rti Setup... I don't know how that would compare to a pair of Monitor 70's, Csi1, and maybe a pair of Monitor 40 bookshelves. They're more apt for movies than music, and I know the Rti series is better at that, but the Monitor 70's seem like pretty sweet speakers. A quick, opinion (especially from experience with the two series) would be awesome, as I'd like to jump on the Rti's if it's a much better route to go!LivingRoom

Actually, I just found another set of Rti70's for $200, 6mos old... and a set of Rti6 bookshelves for $50... that would be wonderful for their setup probably. I imagine my mom would prefer the wood on the Rti's.LivingRoom

I would go 5.1 and not 7.1. Why push the AVR and it will save you some coin.
There isn't much they will get out of 7.1 in comparison to 5.1. -
I disagree. Some of the best studios master in 7.1....namely Disney and Lionsgate films. If you building a HT why cheat yourself and not setup for 7.1. I made this decision after building my HT. Click Here.
