Does anyone else collect watches ?

A friend of mine mentioned to me that he wanted to get a new Tag Heuer which prompted me to look at them. With the economy what it is, I found a great deal on a used one. Since that time I can't stop looking at them, watches of any kind. Does anyone else share this affliction ? If so, what brands do you like. Interested to hear others comments. Cheers.

I have a very small collection. I just like watches for some reason, even though I rarely wear them. Mostly I buy them for the novelty value--I don't have any expensive ones like a Tag or a Brietling. I prefer the older 70's LED digital watches for the retro-ness. My favorite one is by Adidas, which is a redesign of the original 70's LED driver's watch by Bulova:

Yes I collect them. I have 3 Invictas, 2 Breitlings ( one is the Breitling for Bentley), 1 Gucci Digital in Black, 1, Armani, and a new G-shock I just bought. I also have a 6kt Diamond watch from Benny & Co. , bought that when I was younger though. Also have a nice Swiss Army watch a Polkie got for me as a token of appreciation for a well deserved John Deere tour of our facilities.

I love watches, and have a humble collection consisting of Ball, Accutron, Orient, and Seiko automatics, a G-Shock, a Garmin Forerunner, and a couple of Citizen Quartz watches. I'd like to own more Ball watches (probably my favorite brand) and am also interested in Tutima, Mido, Breitling, Ulysse Nardin, and Bell & Ross. I'd like a Rolex, but will probably never spend that kind of money on a watch. I want more G-Shocks too.

Tag Heuer makes some nice watches, and I especially like their chronographs.

I did have a collection of about 13. Sold most of them here. Now I'm down to 3, a timex my late grand father wore, a titanium chrono esq and now my tag aquaracer bought here. I am now looking at another tag but a Monaco, this time.

I did have a collection of about half a dozen, and I would choose a different one according to what I was wearing (mostly suits at the time, 7 days/wk, but no tie on weekends). I gave those all away (none of them were valuable). I haven't worn a watch in ten years.

A lady friend did once give me Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso to wear, and it's still one of my favorite watches, but I don't own one. I mostly wore it "reversed", so that the dial was hidden. I also like some Longines watches. The only watch I own today is a Swiss pocket watch that is over 100 years old. It still works but needs some repair.

If I ever buy another one (which I would actually like to do) it won't be anything with a thick body, or metal strap (it must be leather). I haven't liked any Rolex watch I have ever seen, or many of the other usual suspects. Oddly enough, I love that 70's LED style Syndil posted a picture of earlier.

I picked up a Lamborghini Ferruccio Junior V watch a few years back. I'd like to get more of a daily wear, but this is a hobby I can't afford to be involved in. lol

My grandparents along with some great-aunts and uncles used to own a jewelry company way back in the day, and also designed and manufactured watches. My grandfather was the jeweler. I used to have one of his watches when I was a kid, but destroyed the thing. The movements were custom made in Switzerland to his specs, and was manufactured under their company name. He designed the casings and the face detail, hands, etc., and then would put the final assembly together. Eventually there was an entire catalog of models, as well as direct sales to the military.

Recently i found two of those watches on an internet watch site, and bought them as gifts for my mother and aunt. Needless to say that went over well. I then started keeping an eye out on ebay and every once in a while one comes up. I've pretty much bought every one that's come up on ebay in the past year.

My grandmother passed away just about two years ago, I wish I had started finding these sooner. She would have gotten a big kick out of finding their watches on eBay.

I have a nice little collection growing, although most are in rough shape. I have one that's in great condition that I got a nice band for and wear, and just found one last week that is working that I am giving to my dad.

These watches are from the 40's and 50's, we're talking wind-ups here

I have a few but none could be really called high end.

My everyday work watch is a Invicta 6350

Casual wear on weekends is a Seiko SNDA61

The usually wear for dress occasions is a Citizen Eco drive Atomic Blue Angels watch

I got a few others that I wear sometimes. 3 that are 50's vintage that aren't really anything special just nice and retro and some Seiko chronos that I have picked up over the years. Total about 15 watches

I mostly wear dive watches, for the hardened crystals. I also like the weight of them.

The watch I'm always looking for is a vintage Rolex Submariner. Probably will never be able to find one that I can afford, but you never know. The other one I have my eye out for is a Omega Seamaster. Vintage would be best but, I always look for deals on new ones too.

I can relate to the distaste for a thick body and metal strap. Actually I used to be the other way around on the strap, thinking a leather strap would simply wear out and need to be replaced. They do, but that's OK. Leather is just so much more comfortable--probably because it's the skin of another animal against your own skin instead of some metal bits. The thick body seems to be the hardest thing to avoid, but that's what I like about the Adidas watch. It's not the thinnest watch, but because of the way it's designed, it doesn't seem to matter as much. When I put on a regular style watch with a large, thick face on it, I just feel ridiculous, as it seems like it is totally out of proportion to my size (I am not a large person).

dont really collect watchs but have the following two.

    Good: Citizen Night Hawk.

    Work Watch: Fossil Arkitekt FS-4123

I have worn it about every day for the last 4 years and the black coating has only worn off where my wrist lays on the desk. There is no chipping any where else. I was kind of skeptical about getting a black watch, figuring the coating would chip and look like crap. This watch has held up really well.

I have couple every day watches, but got this one for Christmas two years ago.
    bulova.jpg

This isn't my exact watch as mine has stainless steel face and has a lizard grain leather brown band. It is a wind watch and I really like it. However, these things need to be serviced every so often and the jewler I took it to for the new band said they can become expensive. Awesome.

Far from a collector -- don't even wear a watch anymore since I stopped working. But I did buy a watch when I was in Switzerland - a Bucherer. It just seemed like the right thing to do.

Nice ! Sharp looking watch there. A friend that I work with who's dad owns a jewelry store said that to be a Tag dealer requires that you carry about 1.5 mil in inventory. He also said that there are only about 4 or 5 models that are their bread and butter. I am sure the Carrera is one of them.

    Invicta pricing?
Whatever you can get it for. They change up styles frequently and discounts abound.
List prices are a joke. Mine listed at $1395. IT's a two year old model, and they were
being blown out at $149. Make's you wonder what the mark up is on other watches.
