what are the replacements for them and what are their impedance?
thanks

Most likely the mid-woofer was the MW-6500.
Driver: MW 6500 Driver's model #.
Brand: Polk Driver's brand name.
Fs: 31.0000 Hz (Free air resonance)
Vas: 2.6486 ft^3 (Compliance volume)
Qts: 0.2190 Total Q
Qms: 1.3000 Mechanical Q
Qes: 0.2640 Electrical Q
Sd: 0.0130 M^2 (Piston area)
Xmax: 3.1800 mm (Cone excursion, linear)
Revc: 6.5000 ohms (DC resistance)
Znom: 8.0000 ohms (Nominal impedance)
Pmax: 35.0000 watts maximum rated power
I believe the replacement is the MW6503.
Driver: MW 6503 Driver's model #.
Brand: Polk Driver's brand name.
Fs: 29.8600 Hz (Free air resonance)
Vas: 3.0017 ft^3 (Compliance volume)

Pmax: 35.0000 watts maximum rated power
There were apparently two versions of the Peerless used: Denmark made are marked 7514 ____ US made marked 5514____. I believe they are 8 ohms. There is no direct replacement for the Peerless. Some Monitor 5A's had the SL-1000 tweeter but I believe the crossovers are a little different.

found it. it was on the schematic for original 5B.
driver is a MW6502. does anyone know what the replacement is for this? -
The MW 6500 is in the original Monitor 5, you asked what was in the original Monitor 5. Later models had either a 6502.
The schematic posted that you looked at is for a later generation Monitor 5 than what you say you have. Why don't you pull the driver and look for yourself, then you will know 100% positive. I'd suggest you pull both the L and R to be sure no one has replaced the drivers at some point over the life of the speaker.

i don't have original drivers. they have been replaced with something else.

Could you be more specific? Something else what? Pic's?
Trying to diagnose without the proper info is very difficult. If they are original 5's w/peerless they should use the MW6500. The schematic you looked at is for the 5B's which are different than what you have (based on the info you have stated so far). The x-overs are different between the two models, how much difference can be heard between the two drivers is unknown.
What is also unknown is what it currently has in it.

That piece of info would have been nice to have right in the first post."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. the crossover has a 33uF cap and another one but i can't read its value
there is one inductor
there are 6.2ohm and 2.7ohm resistors
does that help? -
What are the drivers in there now? Are they Polk brand or did someone put something totally different in there? Does it have fuses on the terminal cup? 1 or 2?

He was suggesting you pull the driver's, as they should have on the back of them what model # they are. It should look something like this.
Or this, which I copied from this thread http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?94519-Are-there-differences-in-drivers-of-the-same-model-from-different-model-speakers

From top to bottom of first pic: Tweeter>Driver/MW (Mid Woofer)>PR (Passive Radiator). The middle one is the one you want to unscrew and gently pull out to look at the back off. It should look like the pictures I posted above.Monitor 7C's With Tubes -

My guess is it's a MW6502. The MW6500 was used in very early 5's and based on the photo and lack of 2 fuses I am more inclined to believe it originally used a MW6502. Your's are not the earliest Monitor 5's.
You could call Polk customer service and find out what they recommend as a replacement for the MW6502 or go on ebay or post a wanted ad here in the FM.

Looks like someone replaced them with Goldwood speakers.
The parameters are way off on them. GW-6028:
Power handling: 60 watts RMS/85 watts max ? VCdia: 1-1/2" ? Le: 0.5 mH ? Impedance: 8 ohms ? Re: 7.30 ohms ? Frequency range: 55-3,000 Hz ? Fs: 58 Hz ? SPL: 85 dB 1W/1m ? Vas: 0.41 cu. ft. ? Qms: 3.5 ? Qes: 1.2 ? Qts: 0.9 ? Xmax: 2.5 mm ? Dimensions: Overall diameter: 6-1/2", Cutout diameter: 5-5/8", Depth: 3-1/4", Magnet diameter: 4", Magnet height: 1-1/4". -
hope its MW6502
funny that whoever put in the goldwoods installed a 8ohm while the originals are 4ohm. i wonder if that makes a difference? -
It makes a huge difference. Actually those speakers they put in won't go nearly as low or be able to use that much cabinet. So they are a bad fit all around.
-
The overlap of the PR and MW and the use of the Peerless tweeter tell me that it is no later than a 5A. I believe that all the 5A and earlier used the MW6500. The 5B and later had more space between the PR and MW and used the MW6502.
Another thought... The terminal cup usually has a sticker with the serial number and a 5, 5A, or 5B. This isn't the most accurate way as they seemed to be inconsistent in the labeling. Do yours have any such stickers? Looking at the terminal cup from inside the cabinet, there may be a date written on the cup or the cross-over board or even a sticker on the board with the model number (5, 5A or 5B).Stan

Yes, it does help. Those values match the Monitor 5 (no letter). Therefore, it should have the MW6500 and most likely the Denmark Peerless tweeter.
There was still an older variant of the Monitor 5 (Model 5), see photo.

someone posted about the terminal cup so here is picture of it. what do you guys think? is it still a monitor 5?

That's the same as mine 5's look and mine have MW6502's.
My advise, again, is to call Polk Customer Service and verify which driver was stock.
I know Stan says MW6500, but at this point it really could be a 50/50 either way since they could be a transitional model.

how would polk cs know? i thought the records on the old models were sketchy.
-
Seriously? How would Polk know? Who else is going to know? Would it really be that hard to make a phone inquiry? They may not be able to help, but they are your best shot. As long as you explain it a lot better than your first post and give them all the key info. You'd be surprised what they can come up with. There are still some people there today that started with the company. Plus, in the event they can't nail it down, they should be able to give you advice on the best way to move forward. After all they did design them......and probably know a thing or two about them

I have some 5 jrs that are ported with the fuse serial no.s 3178 and 2764. One speaker has a mw6500 and one has a mw6502 driver.
The polk badges are mounted on the cabinet bottom right hand corner and not in the speaker grill.
The tweeter is the silver plated looking one.
Is the mw6500 the correct driver for this speaker.
Thanks, Fro -
I can't imagine that the two speakers would sound the same one having a MW6500 and the other a MW6502. The specs are very different.

Well now it just says that install has failed even though I have removed the old drivers...
No downloadable ones online yet that I can see as it is a new monitor.
Restarted pc and it reverted back to the old drivers. -
