    Well, the first part of your statement is inline with my theory. The second part is also true, but if you remember, self-serve gas stations came about as a way to keep prices down or lower than at regular full serve stations. That was the selling point anyway, not that anyone believed it. Gas stations used to have two seperate prices per gallon, one for full serve, one for self-serve. The cost savings of not paying someone to pump your gas was at that time passed on to the consumer. Not anymore.
