!! Whine/Rant/Babbling Alert !!

The Bad:
Don't know how to say it other than just say it. My dad passed away a couple weeks ago and it's got me in a real funk. It was expected but it's bugging me worse than when my little brother & mom passed in 1978 & 79 and I don't know why.

The Good: (Kinda:redface:)
With my dad passing I got all his vinyl and CD's as nobody else wanted them not there kind of music I guess, A lot of Jazz, Boogie, Blues and Big Band etc... all stuff I remember listening to and liking growing up. So I've been ripping CD's like crazy. So after I get them all ripped (a couple hundred+) I go into windows media player only to find out that WMP has resorted not only the ones I just ripped but also the several hundred that were all ready there! So instead of trying to fix everything I just deleted them all and then re-ripped dads CD's using dbpoweramp. I still need to find a media player that won't resort and retag everything. My CD's I had backed up on an external USB hard drive which brings me to...

The WTF:
A little history, A couple years ago I bought a HP laptop that I could use to watch movies on for when I go into the VA every year but it only had a 250GB HD so I swapped it with a Seagate 500GB SATA 2 drive. So now I've got a bare 250GB SATA WD HD that I put into a Vantec Nexstar 2.5" SATA I/II external USB enclosure plugged it into my big computer formatted the drive then backed up all my music files to it. I could plug it into any of the 4 computers I have and could read and write to it all day long.

Fast forward to this month, After I got dads CD's re-ripped and tagged it was time to plug in the external drive and copy my music files back to the big computer, now this is where it starts to get weird, not a single one of my computers will see the drive WTF. So I pull the drive from the enclosure and put it in the big computer and it works just fine and I get all my music files copied. Now I'm thinking I've got a bad enclosure so I pull the Seagate from the laptop and put it in the enclosure and guess what no problem it works great, next I put the WD back in the laptop and do a complete factory restore and run every diagnostic I can think of on the drive and they all say the drive checks out good. I put the WD back in the enclosure and it still wont work. At this point I'm lost, at first it worked in the enclosure now it doesn't. Oh well I always hated WD Hd's I have never had one that was reliable or didn't die on me after a couple months.

As some of you know I had to put my van in the shop to get the ramp and kneeling systems fixed. So after 4 hours labor to trouble shoot and diagnose what was wrong they replaced both rear air bags, a height control valve, removed the dump valve (no replacement available) and service the whole conversion which cost a little over $1600.00 only to find out 3 days later the damn thing had sprung another slow air leak (Takes about 3 days of sitting to lose all the air, but it does pump backup for now) and now there saying it could cost a couple thousand $ to find all the air leaks with out any guarantee because as you find and fix one another one pops up and the fact that they quit making replacement parts for this system a couple years ago. I guess I have to start trying to figure out how to replace the van with a newer one. Mine's a 1994 and I'd like to get at least a 2008 but the 2008's are around $35-40k and up, New ones are around $60k. This really sucks because I was thinking of taking a couple weeks (for sight seeing) or so and driving to Polkfest, Now I don't know if I'm going to go as I'd have to fly and being in a wheelchair makes flying a real nightmare to say the least. It really sucks when you get to where your going only to find out your wheelchair is on it's way to someplace else like Taiwan.

Musings:
There seems to be a fair number of SDA's for sale lately that don't seem to be selling even at some good prices (cost of shipping?). Now I know this will probably make H9's head explode but it seems like you can get more money for your SDA's if you part them out. Just saying.

When a COLA is not a COLA. I'm on SSA and we got our first COLA since 2009 I got a whopping $48.00 a month increase which immediately got swallowed up by the co-pay for my attendant care which is based on my income as is my rent which just went up the same amount so now I actually get to keep less of what I get after the COLA than before and this is not factoring in the increase in gas, food, utilities etc... Isn't life grand.

If I was President, God, Emperor of the known universe, Ruler of all that is known, etc.. I would make it illegal (punishable by death in the most horrible of all means) for any radio station (ota, internet, satellite, etc..) to play only one track from any of the Pink Floyd albums Meddle through The Final Cut. These must be played in there entirety from start to end.

Lastly:
As soon as I can get everything backed up I'm going to be going off line for a while so I can tear down, clean and do a complete rebuild and software re-install on all my class B comput'n devices. I usually do this once a year but it's been almost 3 since the last time, so there overdue big time.

If nobody understands any of this that's cool you can just go on about your day. Just venting and stuff.
Peace Love Dope & Rock 'N Roll, Bye Bye I'm out for the night.
“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain

Best of luck man. Going through stuff myself and there are days when you just want to give up but you just gotta push through. Tomorrow can always bring good news

Sorry to hear about all your tribulations ! I got a bad feeling when reading about what you were told by the people working on your van. It may be that they're being above board with you but, it sounds fishy to me and I'd like to know that you got a second opinion from a known, reputable tech. I've done a bunch of "plumbing" for oil, misc. gasses, air & water and there just ain't that much to it as far as tubing, pipes & fittings go. Valves cylinders and pumps can and will leak but Jesus......$1,600.00 + $2,000.00 + maybe more....that's hard to swallow. Just sayin'. Good luck !

Sorry for your lose. We've had a couple of people leave us recently also. Its not easy but we keep on moving. Good luck on the van. Vehicles are money pits. I loved the album rock stations that would play the whole lp back in the day. As far as pc audio, check out the recent Mediamonkey release. It does secure rips and works well for me. I rip all to flac and MM tags, converts, ect very easily. Where do you live in Seattle? I'm in west seattle.

Sorry for your loss, Tony. Grieving takes a long time, so be easy with yourself. I think if you try and move on too quickly it takes longer. I like the quote below:

Your grief is understandable and, in a way, a tribute to your dad. Plug n' chug, it does get better.
BTW, you have my vote for Emperor if you add one additonal condition to your Floyd requirements: While DSOTM is, without a doubt, an outstanding album, for every time a station plays DSOTM (in its entirety of course) they must play an earlier Pink Floyd album, too. Extra credit for anything with Syd Barrett
